This is probably just some TV-guide or something, I doubt the Ir-sender sends a strong enough signal to control a TV

Currently, not possible as the Java implementation runs in something similar to a sandbox, not allowing IrDA access. Maybe a firmware patch could allow direct hardware access, however I highly doubt this would be as useful.

JP-5 platform gives OBEX access along with BT however an implementation such as SIR or FIR would be required.

Shucks!

And don't forget about the IR range the phone operates. ^-^

That'd be cool... using your phone as a remote =) I mean it has infrared technology, so it COULD work, just not possible
Ok, why should I keep track of how many days I haven't used Winblows? I uninstalled it like a month ago... Linux = win ^^

the phone does allow apps access to irda, but the transmission goes first through the software which doesn't allow modulation in any way of the infrared signal.. it only allows known codes to pass through (in or out).
but now we have elfs :) which don't care about the software :D
we only need someone to do it :)))

First, congrats on bumping a two year old topic.

And as pointed out in other threads in this section, the infra-red port isnt strong enough to make the application worth having.
