Thanks for this cool how-to guide. I'm gonna customize and update my firmware tomorrow. I haven't been confident enough to try it until now. But, now that I see how easy it is with new procedure, and I don't have to wait 5+ hours with PhoneXS+, I'll give it a go :)
My W810 got stolen in Nov 08. I got a Nokia 6500 Slide as a replacement and liked it. Then, I decided I wanted a smartphone, so I got a Samsung G810. and, I really love it.

If you get an Plugin call error: "Unknown exception", Exception address: 0x7C812A5B...... The plugin will be Unloaded!
This is a bug. It's because you don't have any COM-ports, so create a fake COM-port connection. I did it with my BT Dongle.

Ok, would someone explain how to create a fake COM port please? I don't get it. :)

for all ye n00bs:
HowTo customize your w810 without bruteforcing

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for your actions. Use at own risk. This cán damage your phone.

So this only works for unbranded w810i. If you do it right, your settings/contacts, pictures won't get lost.
Remember, don't flash your filesystem (FS or .fbn), as it will overwrite your whole file system. Only do this, if you want to unbrand your phone too (get rid of tmobile crap, enabling flash). See below for instructions on how to unbrand.
    Premeasures:
  • install USB Flash drivers (by installing SEUS for example)
  • install FAR-manager 1.70 here
  • install SEFP plugin (first SEFP v01004, then SEFP v010051 over it)
  • Extract den_po's CID49 pack db2010cid49_4_alpha.rar.zip to FAR\plugins
  • Get XS++ and your desired MAIN firmware from topsony (registration)
  • Remove your SIM-card and memorystick, just in case..

    Flash break-in loader:
  • Open XS++, connect, ONLY flash your MAIN with w810_p3k_dcu.49R.ssw (located in CID49 package).
    Posted Image

It's only 5 flash blocks, should not take more than 30secs. Just choose STOP if it hangs on 100%.
  • Remove your battery for 5secs and after that put it back in.

    Customizing with FAR+SEFP:
  • Open FARmanager, and press F11
  • Choose SEFP plugin
  • If you get an Plugin call error: "Unknown exception", Exception address: 0x7C812A5B...... The plugin will be Unloaded!
This is a bug. It's because you don't have any COM-ports, so create a fake COM-port connection. I did it with my BT Dongle.
  • Opening SEFP:
    Posted Image

choose Bootscript: w300_w810_z550_cid49 and press Enter The Matrix.
After a while you'll be in the w810i, if not, try again, check settings above.
  • Choose /FS/, now you'll can customize everything you want; camdriver/ audiodriver/ etc.
See below for some tips, or check out Links
  • When done, Go back to root (choose '..' all the time) until FAR asks to exit CSFS loader, choose yes.
  • Exit FAR-manager
  • Disconnect cable and remove your battery for 5secs.

    Flash real MAIN:
  • Now go back to XS++ and connect your w810i.
  • Now only flash your real MAIN file (i.e. W810_R4EA031_MAIN_GENERIC_HN_RED49.mbn, 344 flash blocks).
Don't check Customize File System! This will only take about 2 minutes.
If all went right, you're done, you have customized your w810i WITHOUT bruteforce!

credits go to den_po, Jagheterfredrik, Darkmen and other SE-gurus
Unbranding your phone (getting rid of tmobile crap, enabling flash menu's etc)
  • Backup your files (contacts, settings, sms)
  • Download a FS (.fbn) file too from topsony. Choose your own region, of course.
  • Also download a custompack for your own region. This must be compatible with your FS region.
You can find them in the Custompack Library topic or from topsony.
  • Follow the tutorial above.
  • At step 7 in XS++, also choose to flash your FS with the FS file (.fbn). Again, don't check Customize File System!
  • When you've entered your phone with FAR at step 13, browse to /tpa/preset/custom and copy all contents of your custompack in here, including subfolders.
  • Proceed with the tutorial above. Remember, do not flash your FS again, you'll lose the customization.
Links:

Hi... I think you need to add to step 7 when unbranding that you need to flash with the REAL main firmware otherwiste the FS wont flash. Afterwards flash the fake MAIN.,

Well. now I have an unbranded phone but still no flash menu's. Is there something I could have done wrong? I used this custompack: W810i_CDA102494_43_EUROPE_3.zip.

Edit: no worries.. used another custompack.. now I have nice flash menus :D

add extra flash menus: (.swf files)
/tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash
download them here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/cg5j8c

The above doesn't contain any *.swf files, just *.thm (themes). Does anyone have the *.swf's? Thanks

OK, after I solved the COM port problem - I just opened one in the motherboard BIOS - I'm happy to report that the procedures outlined by the author work just fine: I uploaded a new camera driver (haven't really tested it yet though), a new audio driver (yes, it's louder and no hissing - but I never had that problem to begin with) and deleted some protected files from my W810i. It only took about 5 minutes of my time! :good: :good:

Thanks to everyone involved in making this easy hacking of the W810i possible - tis a dream come true. ;)

solution was already mentioned in den_po's topic (see links). But I'll add it anyways.

Still waiting on someone to come up with it, xanderz0ne...

I've got 2 buddies who want me to debrand their phones. As soon as they stop being lazy and drive on over here, I'll upload a copy of the w810i cingular FS and custpack.. who knows how long that might take though. Lazy buddies. :p
