Really sad and bad news for all 2011 Xperia owners.
Sony just confirmed that the update to Android 4.0 ICS will not start at end of March or early April for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray and end of April or early May for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
It will now start from mid-April 2012 for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray and from end of May or early June for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

For the new flagship Xperia S they didn't even say a month, just that it'll be updated “from the later part of the second quarter”.
That means the users might have to wait untill June 2011.
I thought about getting a Xperia S, but now I think I won't. What do you guys thing about that late release for the Xperia S?

And as always the update will only be available via PC Companion and SEUS and not via OTA.
Sony only pushes out small Android updates like from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 out via OTA.

Sony (Ericsson) promised users early ICS. Looks like they aren't keeping their promises, again. Xperia S, whilst a great phone, without ICS is nothing.

That's sad and unexpected from SE. they were first to announce that they will update to ICS and they will be last to deliver it.

@ Lolly:
Yeah, same like with the X10, which was the thing Sony wanted to change.

Yeah, right. At Android-Hilfe.de Xperia S users report a lot of bugs and problems with 2.3.7 and now they have to wait ages for 4.0.
Also, who buys an phone with old CPU and Gingerbread when they can get newer, faster CPUs and even Quad Cores plus ICS on top with other phones?

Perhaps, but it's not the first time they haven't delivered when they say they would is it. So to me it's not unexpected.

Oh God.. June?? Are you kidding me??
Sony (SE) should learn to keep their word.
I feel real bad for Xperia S(Xperia NXT Series) users and people who were planning on buying that phone and ofcourse, I feel really annoyed myself as even I wont be getting an ICS update for such a long time.

Were can you buy a quad core phone atm, you can't.

Imo not giving Xperia S the update first is the biggest fail.

Sony (SE) :good:  ...... NOT
Although I feel that 5.0 will be released in Q4..
Just read a few articles about it..
But anyways, Sony (SE) has really pissed me off ( I'm sure mostly all the Xperia 2011 and NXT users feel the same way ).

Yes, I think most of us are pissed.

I was a Sony fanboy, but that changed in the last 1-2 months.
My Arc gets one crack after another, the new devices got 1 year old CPUs, Xperia Ion has no release date in Europe and now that.
Waiting for the Galaxy S III to see how it looks like and choose between that and the HTC One X then. At least I think that atm

Who says that? Why you think it isn't able?

@all: why you all so surprised? did you really expect it? I just told myself, it will come when it come. When it comes it will be nice, until that, I'll enjoy in GB. Not that you all miss much things in your gingerbreads anyway.

I think ICS is better optimized for use of dual core CPU's and not to mention the hardware accelerated UI in ICS. I mean ICS would have squeezed more out of the hardware.

No; not launching on ICS is the biggest fail.

But in all fairness, the delay DOESNT appear to be that long when you think about it:

We are now at the end of March. S(E) originally stated that ICS will be released end of March/early April (source) which is for the latest devices of the 2011 range. The rest of the range appears to be about a month later.

Theyve probably hit a snitch with the "approving by their external partners" - probably cos they have been kept busy approving other devices from the likes of HTC etc!
