I was surfing the net & came across this link. It's Russian so I used 'Google translate :
http://translate.goo...ctvzLnGvs70Gwdg

Have a look at this.
They have mentioned something about 'CHAPI'. I think they are able to add links like "Open with' in the normal file manager.
Is it true? What exactly is it...?
And I think they also showed how to make it work. But, I didn't get them!!!

Anybody can shed more light on this...!

I did it and got some petty interesting results. I thought that it was not possible to add a option like "Open with..." in Java mobiles. But, this 'chapi' thing is superb. And after using it I realised that there are many other default apps that are already using it. For eg:- 'Facebook, Twitter app, Picasa etc-2".

It's amazing how much capability these 'Java' Mobiles have.
Now, I have made 'Chapi' apps myself. Most of them are only working as links and not opening the pic or file on which we click.
This is the only app that's working perfectly: "Pro paint mobile" (See attachment)
I am trying to add chapi support to a file manager as well. But, it's only working as a link. i.e the app onens up but the file doesn't. I have tried this on 'Centurion, Mini commander, Blue ftp & Uni FM"
Out of these, I want to enable this support for 'Uni FM" because it's quite flexible & provides a lot of option to add new modules.
I am attaching a modified file. I have changed the 'Meta inf" info. And added support for 'pic' files. I need this browser to open those pic files just like in 'Pro Paint mobile".
MicroEdition-Handler-1: unifm.UniFM, image/jpeg image/png image/bmp image/gif, .jpg .png .bmp .gif,send, ru
MicroEdition-Handler-1-ID: UniFM.class
MicroEdition-Handler-1-ru: UniFM

Maybe I need the correct class for that function. I have tried different combinations. But, it's not working.
If there is a developer onboard then it would be great. I need your suggestion & ways to achieve the same.
Almost all apps can actually be made to support 'chapi'. But, only some works as real 'chapi' enabled apps.

Not possible to do that since rar, tar, zip are unrecognized file types.

Well. The application opens but not the file. But in the case of paint pro app, the image open and ready for edit. Cant we do like that for archiver?

I tried for that but failed. In the all above apps only PPM does that. I've tried witha mobile ps and photosnap. I put midlet.class in handler id and as well as  filebrowse.class but it fails to open the image but both can run the app.

Yeah!! That's the point.
I have made some other 'Chapi' apps as well (Some are shown in the screenshot).
And you can add new formats and extensions that the phone don't 'recognize' by default. It can bridge the gap between smart & feature phones.
But for now these apps support chapi only partially(adds only the link). The real chapi app should be able to directly open the file. Till now I have been able to do that to 1 more app other than the 'pro paint mobile'. But, there is a twist there.

Anyways, this is the main reason why I created this thread. It's for finding ways how can we make fully chapi enabled apps. I really want a file browser such as 'UNIFM' to support 'chapi' fully. And I believe that If we can get a developer aboard maybe some one like 'Mc_kibel' etc then we might be able to add some amazing apps out here that truly support 'chapi' ;).
