Almost every Xperia Arc users knows what I'm talking about.
After a few weeks or at maximum 2 months the case of the Xperia Arc develops a crack above the sensor on its front.
At first it's very small but it'll grow.

Sony Ericsson knows about this problem and said it's fixed with Xperia Arc S and you can get new, fixed covers that won't crack anymore for the Xperia Arc, too when you bring it to repair.

A long time we all thought Sony Ericsson would have fixed the issue, because no Arc S owner reported a crack on his device. Some users even sold their Arc to get an Arc S without the cracking issue.
But today one user posted a pic of his white Xperia Arc S with the crack.
That means the annoying problem isn't fixed yet and the new "fixed" cases will crack again.
I really hope they bring up an other fixed case that really fixes the issue.

Crack on Xperia Arc S:

If you think about sending your Xperia Arc to Sony Ericsson to get the new case SE mentioned, I'd say better don't do it as you'll have the same problem again and you're without your phone for a while.

I'm using silicone pouch for mine and there are no cracks in the housing. I don't use it regularly though.

I think its design which is meant to fit in the bend of the palm is causing it. When carried in pockets or laptop bags the the bend of this phone pushes against the flat surfaces and the housing is gradually developing cracks.

A silicone case or a hard rubber case may prevent this. Just giving a suggestion :)

Then may be its totally sony ericsson's fault. An Arc with warranty is saved. :)

Yeah, the material is too worse for the design of the phone.
But we can't do anything about it, new cases will crack again...

The crack is a weld line there since manufacture and gradually worsens over time and the problem should be easy enough to solve during the moulding process.

And why the crack only above the sensor ? Does it have heating issues?

No one knows why it cracks, but most users think the material is too bad/cheap.

Some users even get a second crack at the left side, above the back button, I think mine is developing that, too. But not really visible atm.

@ Boysie:
Why?

I assume the cases are made from PC/ABS like the majority of mobile phone housings, in which case this isn't a 'cheap' plastic. At the moment it's around £9 per kg (depending on supplier). The problem isn't the material (polymer) but the processing and moulding of that polymer.

Blog comment left by vincie:

I think the problem with the crack case is not how it was made but how it was handled.

And I think you are wrong :)

I'm not saying bad usage doesn't help crack evolve faster, but still..

Problem is with design and unless they make it more solid on that place, it will keep cracking.

Sorry for off-topic.
I studied that, if we use silicon pouches, then it blocks the signal receiption so the battery will drain rapidly. Is it true?
