Earlier on we brought the rather exciting news that Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) was on its way to the 2011 Xperia range of phones next year. Rather disappointingly, Sony Ericsson have now issued a new statement saying:

"When it comes to future platforms of the Android OS, we will make them available to consumers in a timely manner, as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view"
Which basically means that Sony Ericsson havent (officailly anyway)  made up their minds, much like the Froyo debate that happened with the X10 line up, and we all know what the end result of that one was like. Somobile, however, are still hoping that Ice Cream Sandwich will find its way onto the 2011 Xperia line up.

My personal opinion? I think SE UK let it slip (much like SE Brazil regarding the Gingerbread update), but SE (International) are trying not to raise hopes.

With this part they just covered up themselves, just in case, like it was with 1.6 and 2.1. People(with old version of android) asked, what do you need more, like there's nothing big in new versions.

About that hardware part, do they mean if our hardware will be capable of running newer versions of android? Rubbish, if you ask me :)

But if you think that SE UK let it slip then why would SE not go along with the ride particularly when the response has been extremely positive with a number of people saying they are going to buy an SE phone next?

This was an excellent P.R move but as usual dumb SE doesn't know a good thing even if it dropped on their feet.

Stupid move by not confirming it or going along with it and working harder to fulfil the undertaking.

Confusion and stupiditity are the order of the day over at SE... and they wonder why they are an also ran these days.
It is not what you do or even how you do it buy in what state of mind you do it: Dups! 2009

They said the phones can run it, so come on. They signed a contract with Google saying they'll update it to the latest version if the phone can run it - so they have to update imo
