Today Sony Ericsson announced the W8 Walkman Android phone. Basically it's just a XPERIA X8 for Walkman fans. It has a few design changes and a customized firmware for Walkman player functions.
A few facts:
It has a 3-inch screen, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3.2mp camera. It uses the same launcher (4-corner-launcher) as the XPERIA Minis and will have a Walkman widget. The OS is Android 2.1.

W8 will be only available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It will be released Q2 2011 in the colours Azure, Orange and Red.

Yippee yahoo....., cant wait . An android phone with a music player like Walkman is what I call a do-it-all phone.

Personally I would just get a X8 or the successor to the mini (pro): it does more/less the same thing, has a later version of Android and better hardware!

What the android stock music player lacks is a graphic equalizer. If it is introduced in the present android phones i too will say that W8 is pretty much the same old X8 but with graphics of walkman.

Its not Android Stock Player: it is Sony Ericsson Music Player (as confirmed when some people noticed how to access the default player for Android by using the LiveView) and that doesnt include an equaliser.

I cant see SE making an equaliser just for W8, not when:

X10 range and X8 has the Office Suite application as part of the stock firmware
Market update was for all SE Android range

If this does include a graphic equaliser then I would be VERY surprised if they dont include it for X10 range and X8

havee few questons,
1.why thiss is only for asia ?

2.why se not make good phoness like they used to be ?

3.why all new hardware of phones sound crap? after w995 there is no with good camera

i was waitin for a good android phonee,but my dream wont come true better buyin X8 than this.will there be any futur with good hardware ?

1. Because it is in those countries that SE gains profit the most from mid to low end handsets. For example here in my country x8's sell like cookies, while really few people buy the x10. Frankly speaking SE is simply matching suply to demind. In the other hand low end phones barely sell well in Europe/US.
I can see the logic here.

2&3. Because nowadays feature centric phones dont sell. Now everybody wants an all-roud phone, which is what the Xperia line is supposed for.

So, yeah. I dont think there will be any good all rounder phone under the walkman brand anymore.

so wonder since it is not feature centric phones anymore why se don't add player to there Xperia line up ? adding a brand good music player sound real nice,which will attract more music enthusists to Xperia line up(like me)
I still don't see the point of re painting same model to some else franchise name(ex-Walkman,cybershot) and sell as a new phone,only logic i see is normal user don't care about this so we can sell anything we want to them just renamed-how this is better than improving your top franchise now-Xperia wiht adding walkman and cybershot to Xperia and sell as a Xperia?

I must confess but least it has some logic:

SE are going/gone with Eclair and Gingerbread. Hardware seems to be similar to X8. Why would they introduce Froyo when they could take their Eclair ROM and make the changes? That would really leave X8 owners etc with a rather bitter taste in their mouth.

I would love to know where they got their "rumour" for Froyo, and I will be hunting for it

There is still a large and growing low-mid end market in Europe especially UK, yes a lot of people want high end handsets but there is a growing trend over the past few years with Networks moving low-mid handsets in contract bands and not just Pay&go as previous.

I see the logic,its really painful if W8 run froyo,why not X8?(feeling as X8 user like me),why sony ericsson dont just update their old midrange phone like x10 mini,x8 & mini pro to froyo? I also really want to know where their got the "rumour",I just find it strange.
