My friend's 5800 had the same problem and Nokia refused to fix it saying that the motherboard has to be changed. Please help.

I'm not sure about a hairdryer, but certainly somewhere warm-ish. It has to be a balance between not too much heat that you will damage the components, but also not too much time that the motherboard/components start to corrode.
In the past, I have manage to salvage water damaged phones, but its best not to hold out too much hope.
Good luck. Else, your home insurance will cover you for accidental damage - I hope! Or better still, a dedicated mobile phone insurance.

But the problem with the display is serious because when the screen is off i cant see the marks. I can only see them when I turn on the screen.. I am afraid that they will charge a hefty amount for screen replacement. Can you guys suggest me a story that can convince them for free replacement?

Its a small square shaped white strip that turns red when water touchs it. Good luck and while you're at it please check for a new update for the X10.

I thought the same.. Because I do sweat a lot because of the summer weather (42+ degree Celsius)..
