Fashion has become a part of the market and Sony Ericsson sees that too. The new range of Emotional design models has shown its first member; the Z610i. A shimmering mirror clamshell which is a real Sony Ericsson device.

NewMobile got the possibility to check out the new device. Two variants were available; the grey and blue version. The pink version which is not shown in the pictures and videos shall be the main target and saleskiller for Sony Ericsson. Unfortunately it was not around, but only differs with respect to others on the internal and external colors. The accessory package and the specifications are the same for all three devices.



The first look at the new Z610i will show you a real Sony Ericsson device. Round shapes and a simple way in which several SE designs are used in for instance the keys on the keyboard show the real Sony Ericsson feeling.

When closed the front is the main story. The shimmering mirror looks of the device are fimiliar with the Sony Walkman MP3 players and the front contains a 2.0 Mpixel camera and a very special external screen. The current time, an incoming message or call are not shown on the screen, but projected against the other shimmering mirror surface. This looks very special and is unique in the current market.

After opening the flip it becomes clear that the device has a robust flip mechanism and that Sony Ericsson did not forget to design proper internal looks. Each model has its own internal color setup, which gives each Z610i an unique design.





Next to the 262.000 color TFD display there is a video call camera. UMTS is available in the device and by using the internal and external camera the user is able to setup a videocall. Photos and videos can only be made with the external 2.0 Mpixel camera, which does not have auto focus or macro mode. A flash is also not available in the Z610i.

The basis around the Z610i is comparable to the new K610i candybar device. The specifications and interface lay-out are completely the same as the UMTS candybar which will be available in red soon.

The Z610i contains specifications as a Memory Stick Micro (M2) memory card slot, the new enhanced user interface, Bluetooth with stereo audio profile, Tri-band, GPRS, SMS, MMS, Email, 72-tone polyphonic ringtones, Music DJ, Video DJ and Photo DJ. Special themes in relation to the style of the device are also available.




The expectation is that the Z610i will be available in the shops around the end of September together with the new Sony Ericsson W710i Walkman clamshell with fitness functions, the ultimate W950i Walkman smartphone, the first ever slider made by Sony Ericsson the W850i and the white version of the W810i.

The darker version is really smart, especially that delish OLED. I'm not as keen on the inside of the white version, but it's OLED does still look the business.

The white casing looks pretty chic. The Z610, overall, looks like a cool phone. Too bad it won't make it to North America.
