With Design/Lifestyle and Social out of the way, it's time for the interesting stuff...Performance. Unfortunately there is only one device but it's by far and away the pick of the new HTC bunch and will provide real competition for the Sony Ericsson X10.

HTC Bravo - "Everything you want comes to life on Bravo" - April 2010

This is what everyone wants to see, a high end, high powered, feature packed device. The Bravo is the 1GHz Snapdragon device which has long been rumoured to be coming from HTC and while the RAM is listed as 256MB, B3ler3fonte at xda-developers claims this will be increased to 512MB. Focusing on the real specs however, the Bravo is still very impressive with a 3.7" AMOLED, WVGA screen, a 5MP camera with flash and HD video recording at 720p, DivX & Dolby support and a 16GB microSD card in the box!

The obvious rival for the Bravo is the X10 and the release dates could be key. We already know that Sony Ericsson won't make their original February estimate but now they have a real target as they must aim to release before the Bravo arrives in April 2010 with similar specs and a slimmer body at 112 x 56 x 11.7mm compared to the X10's 119 x 63 x 13mm.

Poor SE! Announced months ago and now they SEEM to be struggling to keep to the February release schedule.

I bet HTC is going to release the competition to the X10 before the latter sees daylight despite reports of an HTC delay.

SE is run by incompetent people who ruined a perfectly sound company (after 2002 before mid-2006) to a horribly mismanaged, confused and directionless pseudo company.

Pity.

But let's not get distracted by the problems of SE here, this topic is about the HTC Bravo

if its coming in April, i think HTC is announcing it in the MWC 2010 coz i have never seen an HTC device getting late than a month from its announcement ;)

Doesn't look half bad. Does anyone who has experience with HTC phones know how good/bad their battery standby time are?

A friend of mine has the 'Diamond 2' and he says the call quality, signal reception and battery times are quite bad.

For me the battery must be able to last one entire day of heavy use to be acceptable. I don't mind charging the device every night but restricting usage is not good enough.

My old HTC Diamond had a poor battery (900mAh), it could not last whole day with any draining usage (GPS, WiFi etc.) The call volume was also a bit low.
The Diamond 2 has a slightly better but still poor 1100mAh battery.

On my HTC Magic (1340mAh battery) I have GPS & WiFi always on, 3 email accounts on constant sync and I'm in a very poor signal area so it's regularly searching for the network and it always has battery life left at night. It is still possible to kill it within one day though if using something heavy on the processor or long periods of GPS tracking for example but that goes for many similar phones these days.

The Bravo has a 1400mAh battery so that's not a huge concern, it's the Tide and Salsa that I'd worry about the battery on.

Thanks MikLSP!

For me the two most important aspects of a phone are its call quality and reception.

After that we can talk about the build quality, battery standby times and features

I have used a lot of phones from all the top 5 manufactures and the best call quality is from Motorola with their 'crystal talk' technology followed by both Nokia and Sony Ericsson with Samsung at number 3.

I have recently been intrigued by HTC that I am thinking of giving them a go but they have to satisfy me on those two basic uses of a phone first.

Anybody tempted by the HTC Desire?

Sounds pretty much perfect to me, I don't need the 8MP offered by the X10 personally.

I would have been if the X10 wasn't out. It's going to be a good device no doubt but it simply didn't have the same appeal as the styling of the X10 when I saw them both.
