Hi,
I'm a complete noob when it comes to modding and i'm knocking on a bit so please be gentle and use words i will understand
Just got a W995 and would like to change the font but i really dont know how to.

1) Is there a simple guide anywhere? or if not can someone run through it for me

2) How do i know which fonts i can and cant put on it?

I've been browsing around this forum for days now but i'm still not much clearer

Ps, i already have A2Uploader.

1.How
Use file system explorer in A2uploader. How? Turn of phone, reinsert battery, start FileSystemExplorer and connect phone holding C. If not C works, try 2. If not 2 works try 2+5 together when connecting.

2.Where
Fonts are detected in: tpa\preset\system\fonts

3.Which font?
I love and use this one. Just delet all the font files on your mobile in the folder over, and upload this:

i've done it using another post i found on here(below), thanks for your help - i'm one happy bunny



it was easier than i hoped.. connect with a2tool, follow fonts path; delete font.xml and copy new files..
i added sony sketch font here..

Font looks great on w995 Copied over no problems using a2 uploader. Do you know where else I can get any more? I've tried googling for more but i can't see much. Can i use regualr ttf fonts from a pc? I'd really love segoe ui, calibri or something similar

Had a go with the comic sans font but just got the black screen of death when i re-booted my phone up..

I've flashed sony sketch and also tried segoe ui using a2 uploader, both were done no problems. what program are you using to flash? have you flashed over any different xml files? as far as i know incorrect xml files such as layout.xml and layout_main.xml can cause problems if they are not designed for your model. I'm using a w995 and i've noticed there are a whole load more layout files and possible lines to edit than some previous models.

But how to install fonts on 995?

In my W595 there is just a Fonts.xml file and the fonts itself, but in the W995 i noticed that it was more types of files, and the fonts had other extensions like .|tt or somthing.

What to do if you have the fonts itself and the fonts.xml? What to replace/ delete?

You need to copy the font files (ttf) and the fonts.xml and font_engine.xml file to TPA\PRESET\SYSTEM\FONTS. Apart from that there's nothing else to change. Don't worry that the original fonts have a different extension, you can use .ttf fonts no problem. If you don't have the font_engine.xml file you can edit a copy of your current one in notepad to change the font names to your new file names and copy over to the same folder. Otherwise your phone will be looking for fonts with the original names and not the new ones. Now i write that, that could be an answer as to why your phone has bricked.
Have a go at copying your font files (including bold and italic versions remember) across and also the associated layout xml files and let me know how it goes.

Hmmm..
I just copied the Comic Sans files into TPA\PRESET\SYSTEM\FONTS using A2Uploader (as i did with Sony Sketch) but they never worked..i just copied them all into the folder so they're now sat there alongside the SonySketch files..
The files i copied were 2x .tff files and a FONTS.XML file as that's all there was in the font file i downloaded..
I'm guessing im missing the Font_engine file? -although i have one there(presumably from the SS font?) - do i need to edit it to suit the new font? and if so how? - i can see it but cannot extract/open it....

Ah, i was under the impression you had a copy of the fontengine file. Sorry. The thing is you can't read files from w995 using a2uploader. I've not tried Comic Sans font but I do have the exact files I uploaded for SonySketch. Perhaps someone can advise of what changes are maybe necessary for comic sans.
Try these files for SonySketch. The file paths follow where they should be installed. There are also some layout files there too. To avoid changin anything else I'd just copy over layout.xml and layout_main.xml The others are for various other purposes.

hi... i have problem in connecting phone w995 with u2 tool. ive using c, 2, and 2+5(nothing out)... but with c n 2, what appear is mass storage (phone card) but nothing loaded at u2 tool. what is wrong? can anyone help me?

There is no need to create a new topic AND ask here as well.

The answer to your problem is that you haven't installed the flash drivers. Use the GGsetup.exe.

I have a W995 and failed to get the "Sony_Sketch_EF_2.0.5.1" font-files to work. I did some searching and find johndavie1's post about this problem. i "borrowed" his font.xml file and it did the job just fine
He had done some minor changes in the font.xml file but those changes did a huge change in result

Here is the "regular" Sony_Sketch_EF_2.0.5.1 ttf-files with johndavie1's font.xml file. Upload with a2uploader and you'll get a very cool font in your phone.
