Hi,

Is it possible to use the W995's WiFi connection to transfer files between the phone and my computer using Windows networking?

The WiFi connection seems to work, and the phone receives IP settings from my home router.
It can access the Internet, and I can ping the phone's IP from my computer.
I have Network sharing ON for the wireless network the phone is connected to (in Settings/Connectivity/Network sharing).

However, it doesn't seem to act as a Windows file sharing server, or any other sort of server for that matter.

What am I missing?

Replying to myself...

For some reason, the phone had a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255. Forcing it to the correct 255.255.255.0 appears to have solved the problem.

hi I'm trying to tranfer files via wifi as well however it requires a username and password, which my phone doesnt have... help?

I tried it, and it worked perfectly fine in my W705...
But I wanted to know if there is something similar to a Remote Desktop connection from phone to PC to browse via Wi-Fi??

check wireless router/access point securuty settings. that user name and password should be same in ur mobile to connect it to wi-fi network....

Hi Tony,

I think I can answer your question. I have my W705 connected to my home wifi network (using the username and password set in my wifi router). And I wanted to transfer some files from my laptop, also connected to the home wifi network, to my phone. So I enabled Network Sharing in the phone settings, and then opened a Windows Explorer window. In the address bar, I typed "\\mpW705", which is the name of my phone (as set in the phone settings). Windows prompted me to enter a username and password. So in the username I entered "mpW705" (the phone name, again), and left the password field blank. This worked a treat! It then shows two folders, one for the phone memory and one for the memory card, and you can copy files into them no problems. (A message shows on the phone when you initiate the transfer.)

2) Check the password in the setting of that.. (for the checking purpose, disable the security [without password). if everything goies correct then, u always can set password later.....]
3) Check if the wi-fi network is hidden or not (router settings). if yes, then note down the SSID from the setting... or Un-tick the hidded ssid option, which will make the wi-fi network visible to other device...

4) Switch on ur mobile wi-fi
5) search for wi-fi network from wi-fi... (You can find the network, only if the wi-fi network is not hidden.... if hidden, then u have to set the things manually with the SSID u noted previously from router/access point/computer)
6) after creating and connecting the connection share network from mobile....

now the tricky part

7) check if ur computer network has the workgroup named as "workgroup". if yes u will see the mobile in ur entire network.. otherwise u have to rename ur workgroup to "workgroup" and restart computer.... (commonly u may have "mshome" as workgroup...)

Hi guys, please help! This is the closest thread I can find on file / media sharing/streaming.

Running XP SP3 on Vaio laptop, started the services

server
workstation
computer browser
tcp/ip netbios helper
ssdp discovery
upnp host

Tried enabling upnp on the router, no affect. Read elsewhere this isn't required from streaming on local network, so disabled it again (on the router).

Enabled NetBios on wireless network (properties > tcp/ip properties > advanced), computer is on "workgroup" workgroup.

I've read that "If you run XP you can't play the media on other devices but they can play the content on XP.
In case of XP you probably have to enable UPnP first."

I have setup shared folders on my vaio, and can access them on the Vaio (\\vaio\shared) but not on other computers on the network. Also, I've set network sharing to "On" on my SE W705, but it is not visible in Workgroup / My network places.


I would like to stream music to my phone via wi-fi on my local network! My SE W705 is found when running upnptest.

I don't use WMP at all by the way (completely removed it) so any guidance please direct towards configuring winamp, if necessary.

hey people.
i want to transfer some files via WiFi to my computer but i don't know how.
i can connect, go to internet via WiFi, i renamed my workgroup to workgroup (but, and before changing name i was connecting to internet without any problems, i renamed phone to C905, and changed sunet mask to 255.255.255.0, anything you mentioned here a have done but i don't know how to transfer files, how to access my phone from computer and transfer files ((
Please Help!!!

Let me check something

Ok got it working

• Turn on Network sharing
  
• Get the IP of your router here: Connectivity -> Wi-fi --> Options on your connection --> information and get the ip
  
• Then press WINDOWS+R and type this: \\YOURIP and press enter

Try to restart your phone

Sometimes you need to wait a while for it to register with the router... I usually can't find the phone right after connecting...

Thanks, the solition posted here worked for me, but if i can, there's another question, can we do this on the other way? i mean sharing the pc's files on the phone? thank you
