Rumours had been spreading that on 22th July 2009, there will be Tsunami due to Solar Eclipse.

You know what's my opinion?

This is all NONSENSE.

There's no way a person can predict a natural disaster. If a person can, Si Chuan Earthquake would have been avoided.

I argued with my mum just now

She told me,

"Boy, zai 22 qi yue, ru guo you pen you jiao ni qu hai bian wan, bie qu, yin wei ni pa shuo 22 hao you tsunami"
Direct translation:
"Boy, on 22 July, If got friend call you go beach play, don't go, because your father says 22th got Tsunami"

I talked back
"If you worry so much, let's move to Bukit Timah hill, It's gonna be the safest. But if got earthquake, we'll die first."
(I live in Woodlands, North of Singapore, Bukit Timah is in the middle of Singapore, and has the tallest hill in Singapore.)

Tsunamis are made by the earths crust moving, not solar eclipses (if that was the case, the UK would of suffered from one in 1999) so I agree with you on that one.

However, on the "There's no way a person can predict a natural disaster. If a person can, Si Chuan Earthquake would have been avoided," some people do tend to see into the future, but not even they can see what date it is going to happen

Well, I guessa there could be high tide because of Sun and Moon in one line, but there won't be tsunami, as devilwasabi said, natural disasters are unpredictable... or maybe inpredictable... which one is correct btw? :p

devilwasabi, thx :p

santae3, yes... If there wouldn't be gravity, there wouldn't be waves - all water would fly away from the Earth :p

And yes, when the Moon, the Earth and the Sun are in one line, the high tide is the strongest ;)

No, it doesn't mean... Sun eclipses are quite often, and tsunamis are rather rare ^^

Tsunamis are just earthquakes that happen at sea; thats what causes them: its the plates going under one another. One "grips", then all of a sudden it slips, creating an earthquake. And cos its under the sea, thats where the tsunamis comes in: it causes (normally) huge waves. If the quake happened on land, it wouldnt be a tsunamis.

And yes the waves are caused by the moon. And like I said: if the eclipse of the sun causes tsunamis, then the UK would of been wiped out back in 1999.

And eclipses of the sun are not that often: when was the last time your country had one, and the time before that? Moonlar eclipses are more frequent

cchaos, I mean eclipses r more often than tsunamis ^^' And tsunamis can be caused also by quitta big piece of rock detached from island and fallin into the ocean.

Any natural event like a Tsnumami, earthquake, volcanic eruption etc are impossible to predict due to the enormous complexity of the earth and the vast time scales these events have been happening. We can barely predict the weather accurately for more than 3 or 4 days!

Animals, particulary dogs, have been said to know when an earthquake is imminent but this is just they can 'hear' the sub sonic vibrations before we can feel them.
