Some of you may already have seen the rumours concerning a possible split in SE? Apparently Ericsson are looking to sell their 50% stake in SE. Is this the end for SE?

I think Sony might just be able to pull it off on their own, but personally I'd rather the company remained as is.

Sony without Ericsson haha would not buy a Sony phone ever... they need Ericsson to make good phones

Well, this sort of may be good, as they will introduce the Playstation brand to mobile phones. But a phone with sony written in bold? Well... you get me.

Anyway, brand names will probably do more harm than good seeing as it's likely that it'll be another F305 story leaving people disappointed.

Disappointing if true, but we've heard these rumors for a year now and nothing has really come up with them. Until something substantiates, I will be held a doubter.

Anyhow, I can't even really see Sony running by itself...the real things it brings to the company are the Walkman and Cyber-shot names. People know those brand names, and I'm sure it helps with sales. Not sure how well Ericsson can survive without some name recognition from Sony, or how Sony will survive with the phone expertise of Ericsson.

I disagree, and plus the F305 had no brand name on it anyhow. (like PS or anything)

If I were to have to choose between Sony and LG, Sony will more often than not get my vote because of brand name recognition. Same reason why I bought a Cyber-shot digital camera...never regretted that decision.

True, although it was marketed as a gaming phone.
Unless Sony's Playstation phone has graphics similar to the iPhone's then it's likely to disappoint, this also means that some sort of application store and so on would be needed as it will be supported on certain phones unlike most Java ones.

But why would the create a Playstation phone? . That will compete with PSP. Then they will have to give up to the whole PSP thing, because no one would buy them anymore. Why would you buy a gaming console, when you could buy the same thing, but also a phone. So that would cost the really BIG money. So don't expect something like this. Maybe the will bring some of those japanese gems in Europe. But that's all. But i wouldn't want SE to separate.

So why make a phone and an mp3 player (iPhone v. iPod touch) if the iPhone is cheaper to buy initially? Some people want a dedicated device.
