Apologies if this has already been suggested/tried, but would moving the multimedia/mp folder (and the relevant files obviously) to the memory card perhaps resolve any bugs (if it's memory related)?

maybe you can try this by using shortcuts (example fullscreen_back.gif.@) and redirect it to memory card?

I've created a patch, it's as yet untested, but feel free to try it and let me know of your experiences

I really doubt this memory leak theory.

Lets look at this from SonyEricssons point of view for a moment. Why would they make it possible to skin the mediaplayer in the first place? THEY certainly have no need for it!? When programming, i often find myself hardcoding a lot of stuff that shouldn't be hardcoded. Things like like text, settings, design. Cos thats the quickest way to results. Howerver, then i realize that i'll need to change things in the future, and I start making things customizeable.

I think thats exactly whats the case here. They hardcoded it, cos that was the cheapest way to please the bosses. Or maybe it was just the opposite. They're smart. They know how to make a solid peace of software. But then the deadline cought up on them, and they decided to hardcode it.

Anyway, my point is that it's much more likely that we're dealing with unfinished software wich sometimes crashes than this memory leak theory that most likely would have coused the whole phone to crash.

So the conclusion is that we're looking for the wrong thing, we should be looking for a way to change the hardcoded graphics, either by "finishing" the skinning engine an use seperate graphic files, or by changing the hardcoded files wherever they are - both of these options seems like a hell of a lot of work!!

I agree, I suspect it's down to sloppy programming on their part rather than a memory leak. As for extraction, I've been trying out software which should in theory locate graphics within binaries (intended for file recovery purposes), but had no luck

Well I haven't had any crashes as yet, but the 'disappearing skin' (reverting to the original one) bug remains.

Hey guys, i'm new here. I've changed my phone menu and the mediaplayer to that awesome MacOSX Style. But when i click on the Walkman link in the phone menu, i still see the orange background and the "walkman" inscription on top. how can i change that? ins't the file list_background responsible for that?

Hello boys!
I've patched my CID49 K750i with the *.vkp's that allows me to do major interface modification and after uploading Blue Dream theme to my phone, I have realized that non of the media player skins fit well. So, I've created a new skin: Windows Media Player 11 for Blue Dream, by CQ (me ). I hope you will like it.

P.S. Can someone post a picture too? Because I'm too tired to do it myself, I'm going to take a nap now, i guess.

I'm interested in trying a couple of these on my k750, but the reboots are putting me off. If i back up everything in the relevent folder and insert these and things go wrong, does deleting the new skin parts revert it back to normal without problems?

SO in the END can we or NOT change the look of the mediaplayer on a k750/etc without crashes?


For example i changed mine into the WMP11 and works great...after a while i changes back to normal...anfter a quick restart(the phone) it is back to WMP 11

But the major problem is that i can`t take a picture while i have installed WMP 11 skin....when i press the button to "capture" the camwera shuts-down !

The reason why the camera doesn't work when the media player skin stops working is a memory leak. There isn't enough memory to run the camera app when the media skin crashes.

Certainly the default media player is not stored in any common graphics format. The same applies to main menu icons* and some other pieces of the interface. I say this because when the media player skin bug happens, the phone cannot load any type of image. It cannot load any gif, jpg or png. You can notice that because there will be no thumbnails at Pictures menu, no icons for Java applications or games, and the camera will shut down (remember that just after the photo is taken, it is displayed at screen, so I guess the image loader is needed). Notice, however, that images can be loaded without problems inside J2ME applications. This does mean the Java Virtual Machine uses its own image loader, and not the main firmware loader.

* Well, for these icons, maybe they are cached as soon as phone starts. Maybe not.

Just my 2 cents... Too bad we won't be able to use media player skins. They look so much better than default one...

there is caching of icons as i have patched my phone to read icons folder from memory card
so when i copy paste new set of icons the change isn't reflected till i restart the phone

Note that with the patch I made for the W800 which puts the custom skin on to the memory card, while the skin still disappears at times, I've not encountered any other problems, all other graphics still work fine and the camera still functions as expected.

I have same problem with media player skin. It disappeared when I use it 5 or 6 times ...
