Saw the Stuff.Tv video and just in the last few seconds the UI looks bloomin' nice, how it just slides seemingly effortlessly onto the next menu just reinforces my faith in .
If nobody has ever realised yet, it's the reason I like my iPod Touch.

Here's my problem with it: Reminds me of an iPhone. Before apple released the iPhone with it's wonderful GUI and it's touch-and-drag style scrolling and large touch screen, the concept was foreign. Everybody was still playing around with these massive phones with a joystick and a QWERTY keyboard. All of a sudden EVERY major phone manufacturer is working on a touch screen phone that looks and feels exactly like the iPhone, and this I feel is just SE's contribution to a popular fad.
I'm not saying the phone isn't beautiful, and granted it's peripherals may not be the same as an iPhone (with it's sweet walkman player and insanely powerful camera) but the idea... isn't Sony's.

I have to disagree with that. I think the real problem is that many people continually compare products to the iPhone. I own both the 2g and 3G iPhones and I like them both very much, but they aren't immortal icons that other handsets should be held up against for all time. The iPhone was nothing ground breaking in terms of hardware, it was it's UI that broke the mould. That's great, but other manufacturers have moved on and are trying to better their own UIs.

I don't see this as being part of a fad at all. The fad has been for touchscreens, pretty much at any price. Take a look at the Cookie for example. It's a nice enough wee phone, but really nothing awe inspiring. It fills a niche for a touchscreen at that particular pricepoint. Idou on the other hand looks to be a far more complete and well developed solution that hasn't simply been released as 'another touchscreen', but as a handset whose primary function is aided by a touchscreen form factor.

I voted boring other than a huge screen doesn't offer any new decent features other than maybe DLNA.

interesting, but nothing great from me...

the only thing I can honestly say I'm interested in is seeing how the cam performs, I might like to see what have done to Symbian too but the sheer mention of the word symbian has put me on the back foot.

iPhone isn't the first but apple made it "cool" as it does with a lot of things.
Apple's been doing doing this since day one, taking something we take for granted and making it cool, the rest of the industry then tries really hard to mimic that but never come close because they don't understand that coming up with something different is better then just immitating. They did it with macs, they did it with ipod, and now with iphone.

You realise you're contradicting yourself just there?

You agree that Apple weren't the first handset manufacturer to produce large, all-touchscreen handsets, which means by definition that they were mimicking someone else.
But if that's the case, then the part of your post I've quoted above cannot be true because all Apple does is mimic other manufacturers.


Apple is good at UIs and PR, that's why their products sell well.
But they very rarely produce something 'different; since everything they've ever done has been done before by someone else.

Steve Jobs is a marketing guru he is a Demi-God when it comes to marketing and apple products are marketed well so the 2 million apple customers who whorship apple usually buy into their products then make the rest of us envious so we buy in also
