i've yet to use either of these but i'm wondering if people can give a little pro's and con's outlook on physical qwerty keyboards on mobile phones vs using touch screen software?

i only ask as manufacturer's are very keen to add the extra space and weight to their mobiles when it is very unnecessary in my opinion, just use the touchscreen....or not???????????

That is beacuse of SW and less hardware, allthough, to have a touch screen phone is cool. The fact is that, a qwerty keyboard, is easyer to work with. I'd go with touch-screen :p
LG GT540: Cyanogen(mod)7, Gingerbread 2.3.4, Fastboot + Recovery.

No it isn't.

It doesn't matter how good or bad the software is, typing on a keyboard will always be easier because a touchscreen has no tactile feedback.

My opinion pretty much fits in with what step said.
I prefered the tochscreen keyboard to the P1s/M600 qwerty though, I did never really like the buttons with two suspension points.

is tactile feedback really that important?
i thought it would be just a matter of getting used to a touchscreen.

another thing is that i don't want to have to flick open and rotate my mobile everytime i need to send a text, especially if its only a few words.

as long as the software is designed by someone with half a brain it should be ok.
nice large letters
landscape OR portrait mode
a few different layouts
highlights each time a key is pressed
