Well tonight I broke both mine and my dad's W880s.
Mine, it works, and it's not the screen, cos I've tried two, but the screen isn't illuminating properly, and the picture is distorted some what. It happened after removing the screen and then replacing it again. Checked the connections, tried a brand new screen, no change. I can take a pic if anyone wants.

My dad's, another screen related problem, but there's a little "black retaining bar" (as :se: call it) that holds the LCDs connection in place, it's only gone and snapped off, and I doubt there's solution, but can anyone confirm I'm right? See the pic attached for what I mean. It's from the :se: service manual, I didn't put that arrow there. But that black plastic bar that the guy is touching is what's broken off.

Any help will be appreciated, obviously posts that aren't trying to help me will just annoy me.
Thanks.

I don't think you can insert the black plastic bridge again, it's most likely broken anyway if it snapped off.
Sorry to say that, but I think taking it to a repairs shop and having a new connector soldered is the only way.
You could also try to plug the cable in and attach it in some other way (small piece of adhesive tape maybe?).

How thick is the black bar?

How does it attach to anything else?

It's tiny, really tiny. I'm not gonna get it back in, and I'm not gonna try finding a solution til tomorrow :p

OK, I'm kinda looking to fix mine at least. I think it can work without the black plastic crap bar, maybe with something above the flex to hold it down, and it needs to be VERY thin to fit under the cavity on top of the flex.

Any suggestions as to what I can use?

Edit:
Got some GOOD lens out of an old video camera, works like a microscope, and that's what I needed cos it's so small. Looks more like the black bar could be refitted to the connection. Just very microscopic which will be a problem!

Edit Edit:
Fixed one! :o

Yep :)

Now I need a screen that lights properly and doesn't flicker :p

Edit:
Now I have contacted the seller of the screen and I'm gonna get it replaced, hopefully will fix my problem.

I'd like to give a little heads-up about how the connection works for others who found no information like me.

The connector has to be opened by either yanking the screen out (DON'T) or swiveling up the black bar on top (DO) :p
Now this can be dodgy. Try to make the first time you open it the only time you open it as it's too easy for the bar to fly off and be lost forever.
If your bar does fly off and you can't find it, say bye bye W880 (and send it to my address (J/K) :p)
However, if you manage to keep it, you have a chance. But you need almost a microscope for seeing exactly what you're doing, a small tweezers to do the work, and a lot of patience.

As you look at the connection when the black bar has come out, you should notice what looks like contacts on both the top and on the bottom. But then you may look at the contacts on the screen flex and think "hold on they're only on the bottom" and yes, that's correct. The top ones in the connector aren't contacts, just tiny hooks that work with the black bar to swivel it up and down. So to get the black bar in and working, it needs to go under the tiny hooks and pop in at the sides, of course if the hooks are damaged then you won't have much hope. And the black bar has a certain way round - so check it before you touch the connection in the first place :p

With the bar back in place with it swiveled up, slide in the screen flex fully into the connector, then push the bar down evenly with a small flat edge, then your connection should be pretty safe :)

NOTE: I would recommend following the W880 service manual throughout, just being extra careful with the black bar.

I hope this helps people as I had none and was pretty stuck.
