Kate - latest Cyber-shot phone from Sony Ericsson, with the model name C510. In my opinion, C510 is not the best choice of model name for Kate (becouse it sounds similar to the low-end K510), but it’s the final name. The C510 should be available in just a month or two. If you think that the specifications of Kate are low, you can buy Filippa (candy-bar) or Frances (slider): both phones have 5-Mp camera with AF. Kate and Filippa will be released before Frances. Here you can compare all three phones:

Kate. Main features:
- Cyber-shot UI 2.0
- 2.2″ QVGA display
- 3,2-Mp camera with AF
- Smile Shutter™
- Active lens cover
- 120 Mb in-built memory + M2 card slot
- Photo and video light
- Illuminated imaging shortcuts
- Face detection, BestPic™, Photo fix

Filippa. Main features:
- Cyber-shot UI 2.0
- 2.2″ QVGA display
- 5-Mp camera with AF
- Smile Shutter™
- Active lens cover
- 140 Mb in-built memory + M2 card slot
- Xenon flash and video light
- Illuminated imaging shortcuts
- Face detection, BestPic™, Photo fix

Frances. Main features:
- Cyber-shot UI 2.0
- 2.4″ QVGA display
- 5-Mp camera with AF
- Smile Shutter™
- aGPS
- Image stabilization
- Active lens cover
- Photo and video light
- Face detection, BestPic™, Photo fix

yah! untill C905 there was only one se device with 2.4", they sticked with 2.0 and 2.2 too long... C902 could've used a larger display, too. It looks tiny because of those cam shortcuts...

Yeh, 2.4" is the sweet spot for non-touchscreen phones if you ask me.
Just about good enough for the odd short video, great for viewing pictures on, just perfect really.

W902 > Fillippa?
I mean, what does Fillippa have that is better than the W902... and W902 even has Walkman 3.0.

Rather similar to my N95 8GB  But N95 8gb doesn't have most of the cybershot's cool function :/

And why is it a bad thing to give a low-end phone a low-end model number?

Kate is going to be one of the lowest models in the Cybershot range, so of course it's going to have a model number that reflects that.

I copied the text from SEMC-Blog, and only rewrote the text so that it would reflect proper English Step.
Although I would agree with them, seeing as the C702 is a phone with near identical specifications and is hardly outdated at all, it would be more sensible to name it something similar to that.

But when the C702 was released, there were no 8mp handsets on the market.
It stands to reason that as higher-spec handsets are released, lower-spec models get pushed down the range.

You can't have an entire range of handsets with every model 'ranked' at a 7 or above, it just wouldn't work.
The lower-spec models need lower model numbers or the whole thing falls on it's arse.

I suppose that's true, does make sense.

Wonder why :se: seem to be dropping the C702 so soon though.

Not selling well enough perhaps?
Who knows.

As for Kate, well she could be aimed at the PAYG market, which would also explain the lower model number.

They could have alternatively just reduced the C702's RRP although Kate won't see the light of day for a good few months as a guess anyway.

Ah but with the dust/splash proof build on the C702, the manufacturing costs will almost certainly be higher than they will be for Kate, meaning that it wouldn't be as profitable to sell the C702 at as low a price.

You always think about the consequences, I almost admire that. ;)
Very good point though, although I hope that that fact won't make Kate feel cheap. (No pun intended)
