Pick your favourite camera driver, open it as if it were a text file, read comments and edit it as you want.
Mainly trial and error, be useful to you if you have a program called ExifRead(er)
Not a camera modding expert though. Any but to be honest. But this is what I do if I want to tweak.
Hope this helps

I am also interested in camera driver modding. What parameters should I edit? Will notepad be ok?

Notepad will be fine. There is a part called JPG compression or so, there you can start. It's in HEX so I didn't understand a thing of it

Hmm.. In the ones I've modded, theres been internal commentary throughout.
Exifreader will tell you how much of a difference your modding has had on picture quality.
Notepad will be fine, as the legend that is Photographer said above.
Just look through the .dat file opened in notepad for internal commentary, explanations by the original driver-maker of what does what.
Hope this helps.
