So, coming from someone who is currently a noob and is a bit lost in the sea of 10-page threads, I have some basic guidelines that this said guide might want to follow. First of all, yeah, not answering someone's topic is only perpetuating the problem. The issue with SE-NSE (and this isn't necessarily a bad thing) is that it creates a community that has certain expectations. Those expectations can vary greatly, from knowing how to edit your own layout.xml to just knowing which firmware your phone should take. The issue is that there is a community here that is in the "know" and the only way to get into the "know" is to read ridiculously long threads. The tutorial section is good, but definitely under-developed. I think the thread creator has a responsibility to edit the FIRST post of their thread to reflect changes that have been brought about in the next 30 pages of that thread. No, I did not know moving the time to the upper status bar only hides it. Why should I have to go to page 8 to find that out? People have a certain responsibility to read the threads and not expect everything to be handed to them, but these minuscule issues can annoy the noob and only make him create more threads, so you again have to answer that same question that you did on page 43. I think there should be a thread for the mod and then a thread for help with that mod. When you combine them, it is just a PITA to find stuff. If you want to know what I'm talking about, please just look at these threads: The Official Db3150 Mod Thread or Elfpack. These are like those insect-repellent lamps. The noob is drawn by curiosity and is intrigued by what he can do with this phone! And then he starts reading. It looks long, but he thinks he can make it. Until he gets to page 5 when he gives up and makes a new thread.
So, the guidelines!
1) Phone-specific "n00b rescue guides": Yeah, I know it hurts. But we need to do this because there are way too many phones (well, to me there are too many, lol) now that we can create one guide or two. At least we need to classify which phone is what [DB/CID/Generation(A100/A200)] and then maybe make a "DB3150/CID51/A200" guide. Does a DB3150/CID51/A200 phone even exist, lol? If we can't have totally specific phone guides, at least do one huge one with sub-sections for each phone. Some sections would be the same, like flashing a firmware, but some would not, like adding new acoustics.
2) Give me ALL of the tools of the trade that I need to use. Or at least tell me where I can get them.
3) Tell me what I can and cannot do. Can I fully flash my firmware? Can I add new acoustics? Can I have flash menus? Can I do the no-brute-force-hack?
4) Now tell me how to do it. Only give me a link to a thread if there are FULL instructions. No offense, but a post like "the_laser"'s are is not enough. Laser, we love you! And those instructions should be relevant to my phone (meaning they'll work with it)
I know these are basic enough that you probably already know them, but just want to remind you guys. Oh yeah, I'm here to help!

P.S. No n00b should be offended by that name. It isn't derogatory (in my view), and sheesh, get a thicker skin! We're here to help you, so even if it does offend you a bit, just take it and move on. If you do, you won't be a n00b anymore!
