I have an idea. I've been away from SE-NSE for quite some time now; back in "my day" just getting your phone unbranded without bricking it was a pretty big accomplishment. Now, you can change your battery indicator, change your icons, change your fonts, heck, I don't see the day far when you can do this with Bluetooth, lol.

So, coming from someone who is currently a noob and is a bit lost in the sea of 10-page threads, I have some basic guidelines that this said guide might want to follow. First of all, yeah, not answering someone's topic is only perpetuating the problem. The issue with SE-NSE (and this isn't necessarily a bad thing) is that it creates a community that has certain expectations. Those expectations can vary greatly, from knowing how to edit your own layout.xml to just knowing which firmware your phone should take. The issue is that there is a community here that is in the "know" and the only way to get into the "know" is to read ridiculously long threads. The tutorial section is good, but definitely under-developed. I think the thread creator has a responsibility to edit the FIRST post of their thread to reflect changes that have been brought about in the next 30 pages of that thread. No, I did not know moving the time to the upper status bar only hides it. Why should I have to go to page 8 to find that out? People have a certain responsibility to read the threads and not expect everything to be handed to them, but these minuscule issues can annoy the noob and only make him create more threads, so you again have to answer that same question that you did on page 43. I think there should be a thread for the mod and then a thread for help with that mod. When you combine them, it is just a PITA to find stuff. If you want to know what I'm talking about, please just look at these threads: The Official Db3150 Mod Thread or Elfpack. These are like those insect-repellent lamps. The noob is drawn by curiosity and is intrigued by what he can do with this phone! And then he starts reading. It looks long, but he thinks he can make it. Until he gets to page 5 when he gives up and makes a new thread.

So, the guidelines!

1) Phone-specific "n00b rescue guides": Yeah, I know it hurts. But we need to do this because there are way too many phones (well, to me there are too many, lol) now that we can create one guide or two. At least we need to classify which phone is what [DB/CID/Generation(A100/A200)] and then maybe make a "DB3150/CID51/A200" guide. Does a DB3150/CID51/A200 phone even exist, lol? If we can't have totally specific phone guides, at least do one huge one with sub-sections for each phone. Some sections would be the same, like flashing a firmware, but some would not, like adding new acoustics.

2) Give me ALL of the tools of the trade that I need to use. Or at least tell me where I can get them.

3) Tell me what I can and cannot do. Can I fully flash my firmware? Can I add new acoustics? Can I have flash menus? Can I do the no-brute-force-hack?

4) Now tell me how to do it. Only give me a link to a thread if there are FULL instructions. No offense, but a post like "the_laser"'s are is not enough. Laser, we love you! And those instructions should be relevant to my phone (meaning they'll work with it)

I know these are basic enough that you probably already know them, but just want to remind you guys. Oh yeah, I'm here to help! :) I think we need to know what needs to be written and then divvy it out.

~Ibrahim~

P.S. No n00b should be offended by that name. It isn't derogatory (in my view), and sheesh, get a thicker skin! We're here to help you, so even if it does offend you a bit, just take it and move on. If you do, you won't be a n00b anymore! :)

Problem about the DB3150 thread has been raised before, and is pending with Mizzle.

guys we have the instrument already in place...

Tutorial Forum... all we need now are the right guides in them or just more... i think these topics in that section should be locked though... only editable by the creator, not locked as soon as it is created (we must leave a little time for some of those versed in that area to add there comments) but after a while lock it... BUT make another forum where other users (n00bs in that area) can post there questions, eg. the Newbie Forum. This is so that we reduce clutter in that Tutorials thread.
THEN, when questions related to the said topic are answered in the Newbie section, the creator of the tutorial should append these answers to the original topic in Tutorials section as if it were a FAQ.. so that they arent asked again (hopefully)
are you all getting me?

Mibaksh.
Yeah you're right but have some tutorials with questions answered by other peoples and not the creator.
Then this is our (boffin crew) work.
Help all what need help!!

I have a better ideea , this might solve the new topic problem :)

Scottboyuk , if you can, add the following option to new topic. " PHONE MODEL " " FW MODEL " that way things will be a little more ordered here, and no one can post anymore dumb HELP MEEEEEE's .... plus, the forum would look great for example

K810i R8A024 - Pathes
W810i R...... - Acoustics
K800i R8A024 - R800BF Patches

And who does not fill the form up, either can't open a new topic, or some modderator delete their topic, no warnings no nothing. :) Everything would have much more :se: SE-NSE :se: then :p

And I don`t want to be rude, or anything like this. But lord all mighty who in here does not get a instant headache when he /she see's the following

" Can seomeone give me that patch , i don't want to serch 300 pages for it "
And the topic starts getting filled with the same old same old till all you find on page 400 is the same as in page 10... some topics that have 400 pages ... can be made to have only 30 if you actually read them all...the rest , spam over spam, and i`m not saying for people who have problems , but the people who keeeeeeep asking the sameeee questiooooooonnnnnn

Or the same old question over and over , 2 pages after 2 pages the same question, " That patch free? " " That thing out yet? " " Port it " " Someone please port it " " can you make it like this " " well can you ? "

The basic problem besid the noobs and threads , is that there isn't a warning mechanism, something/someone that should warn users that they have done something wrong. Not us, Not the people who know the forum , lots of people have had enough of saying " Stay on topic " " Stop argueing " " Stop doing this " " Stop asking for that " there should be a warn button and something like 5 warns = kick a week , 10 warns = ip ban 1 month... that way people will learn their lesson and order will be restored. All the nice methods will never work. Give `em a hand and they will grab the whole body...

Am I the only one who noticed this?
