A few days ago, Sony Ericsson invited selected press and bloggers to a special meeting about the company, its future and future products and plans. According to Belgique Mobile, Sony Ericsson has been working on "the green wave" and wants to make future products more friendly to the environment. The company showcased three ideas.

Posted ImageProduct packaging
The packaging of the 100+ million products Sony Ericsson ships a year is a huge post, that could be improved to reduce the amount of CO2 released. Sony Ericsson has developed a special envelope that - in theory - could replace the original packaging.

Posted ImageChargers
Another one of the large and rather obvious posts on the "green wave"-plan is the charger. Sony Ericsson has developed a charger that will stop completely when nothing is connected. By pushing the connector into the phone, it'll start, and when it's removed, it'll stop again. It's an ingenious solution and according to Sony Ericsson, the charger will be generalized soon.

Posted ImageSay goodbye to paper manuals
Sony Ericsson's last idea is about going away from paper manuals, and instead integrate the manuals into the phone software. The huge advantage here, other than the large amount of trees that can be left standing, is that the manuals can be updated and even integrated into various functions, so you've got help available for every single feature on the phone.

You might also want to check out MobileCowboys' story about Sony Ericsson's CO2-neutral concepts right here with a full view at the Green Heart Phone (to the right).

The Chargers idea is quite smart but the integrated manuals idea is brilliant..

Agreed! The charger seems to be something so simple and yet nobody has thought of it. The manual is also just so smart, although I'm one of the people who never uses the manual so it doesn't really affect me. The way I see it, I'll learn the fastest by just messing with it myself, not reading :p

Good idea, hope SE selling will increase. If so, more environmental friendly handset will spread in the world. But first, please think again about SE system connector

Was I reading the last part about 'Chargers' right - they want to sell new handsets with out chargers?
E - Manual sounds good (although very little people actually read the manual from my experiance)
also these 'idea's will be met with open arms with the 'Grey' stock traders. wont have to get correct manuals printed or purchase the correct chargers!

Hi,

All the three initiatives are absolutely brilliant... Hope this envelope sets a trend in the global packaging sector... Well i do agree these aspects are beneficiary from both sides, the money part and the ecology part... Thanks for this awesome info...

Don't think the regular manual says anything about that, apart from the 'contact your blablah' thing. ( Personally think thats going to be a booklet, the contact your blablah thing..)
