I'm looking for the s500i R8BE001 firmware Hong Kong one please, I have the HK FS, I think I just need the MAIN for it. But I have looked at this topic that says I can basically use any MAIN, but I will get the language I want [Trad Chinese and English] as long as I have the right FS and CDA.

Well not if you want to input chinese or something like that, Krx knows about this, I can't remember if I'm saying the right thing.

Why not flash w580i firmware? You'll gain walkman and loose nothing...

@photographer: yeah the flash to w580i is a backup plan, but i'd like to keep it a s500i for now.

@ steady: the input isn't so important, i just want it to be able to read it from the memory card

Well, if you just need to read Chinese, then you can use any main, preferably GENERIC_LA.

For the FS, look for the set you want with your required languages from this chart: here.

Then your custpack has to be from the same region as your FS.

However, if you want to INPUT chinese, you will need the CHINA_MAIN as only the CHINA_MAIN has the Chinese INPUT support. Even if you choose a FS with Chinese, but you use a GENERIC_LA main, you will not be able input Chinese.

Also note that you cannot change your font if you want to read chinese. The chinese glyphs are stored in .ccc files and they somehow cannot be modded as of yet. Some font-making masters have already tried and is pretty impossible except for a 10mb font.

So in brief if you want Chinese reading, GENERIC_LA main, FS with Chinese support, default FONT.
If you want Chinese writing/reading, CHINA_MAIN, FS with Chinese support, default FONT.

*Those information goes for all db2020 phones, not too sure with db2010/db3150/newer.

Out of curiosity, would I have to do a full flash [main / fs / cda] or could I just get away with flashing the fs / cda to get the ability to read chinese?
