Welcome se-nse users,
as you may know there have been a few changes backwards and forwards with the signature rules over the course of this year. We had also hoped to be able to implement an automated system to limit signature sizes but that hasn't been possible at this time.
The good news is that the signature rules have now been updated to offer the best solution for as many users as possible.
You can see the detailed signature rules here but I shall also give you them briefly in this topic along with some reasoning for them.
Signatures may contain a maximum of 5 lines of text at default size.
Signatures may contain images with maximum dimensions w700 x h75 pixels.
A small amount of text may be used in conjunction with images.
Multiple images may be used but their combined dimensions must be within the above limit.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The signature limits are designed to restrict the amount of height used at the bottom of every post. Very tall signatures are not good for browsing the forum and often mean you have to scroll past lots of signature space just to read each post.
Signature width is also restricted but only at a point which would become wider than the actual forum page. This limit is designed to allow the full use of page width without disrupting the appearance of the site.
The width of 700 pixels and the ability to use multiple small images is specifically designed to accomadate the popular userbars of 350 x 19 pixels. As you can see 700 pixels allows the use of two userbars side by side without resulting in excess height.
Any signatures which are larger than these limitations will be removed and sent to the user attached to a PM.
Please remember that these limitations are the maximum sizes rather than recommended sizes. A small discrete signature often looks better than the biggest that is allowed.
Also remember that these rules are for the collective benefit of the se-nse community and I'm sure you'll all happily uphold them
Mik
