Hi Guys,

I know its a very basic doubt but I wanted to know what is this flashing ?
1. What is the basic meaning of this procedure
2. Why is it done
3. What changes happen in the phone when it is done
4. Is it reversible

I've read too many articles/posts on how to flash etc. but could not get answers to these basic questions !
for example, I have a SE w300i, purchased in india to its a retail model so if i have to install those patches or themes with custom menus, what do I have to do ?
Themes like club lights etc with flash menus already work in my phone so if i want to install more similar themes, do i need to do any of these flashing thingys or I can directly install them ?

I would really appreciate if someone can put an end to my misery !

when u flash a phone, reinstal the phones software, the phones software is called firmware(fw). a phone has many versions of its fw. when u got a problem in the phones fw u can just flash it and it will go, when u flash it, u can flash the fw version u got,or a newer version if u want,u can change it back by reflashing the fw version u had. read here the quickstart guide http://forums.se-nse...showtopic=29591

Ok.. I'll try to answer.. Feel free to correct me if I wrong..


1) flashing means installing your phone's firmware... You also could repair, unlock, and even modify your phone with flashing..

2) Because you want to make a change of your firmware... Such as unlocking, debranding, repairing, and update firmware

3) It depends on what you've done... Like patch result, update result etc...

4) Yes, only if you don't damage your EROM and hardware.. Maybe if you fail, your phone could be dead, but don't panic... If it just a firmware problem, you could solve it by flashing it again to your previous version..
