Due to a recent increase in Rapidshare account phishing and the number being offered for sale, a decision has been made to close and remove all such topics in the forum.

Phishing is not something anyone at se-nse condones or approves of and while it may be the case that some legitimate accounts could be offered, there is no way to assure that accounts are not phished.
As there is no benefit to the community to allow such sales and also a noted lack of interest in the previously existing threads, no rapidshare or similar account sales will be permitted.

Please do not create any new topics advertising account sales. Users creating such topics will receive a warning increase and the topic will be removed.

On a related matter, does anyone know whether Steam accounts are secure or whether they too can be phished?

There are cases of people 'buying' steam accounts and after paying, find out that their STEAMID has been VAC-banned. Valve (maker of Steam) does not entertain any or just a small really small handful of people who get cheated like this.

That's why before you buy a steam account, you should just create an account yourself and ask the seller to add you. Then get to his steam community page and check his VAC status. (Well, that's what I heard from a few of my mates when they bought theirs)

A steam account is free; but the games are not.

Indeed, there were a couple of market topics but also recently more created by new users with one post, the most recent of which was a new user with 5 accounts for sale...all with duplicate games. Clearly he doesn't own all five accounts as he would not have purchased the same games five times!

As a result Steam Account sales are also now being removed from the market.

OT I know but kudos to Valve I bought a DVD copy of Half Life 2 about a week after it come out for reasons beyond my control I am separated from the DVD, Steam allows me to play it by downloading all it needs and I don't even need the original disk lucky as it would be £35 down the toilet.
