Help Need in Stoke for K800i Someone to fix my dead phone

I've a dead K800i, basically I had it connected to my PC with the 3-pin cable and when I disconnected the phone curled up and died.
Now, when I try to switch it on, all that happens is the red LED flashes on the IR port. I guess it needs the firmware flashing but with the special cable, not the one I have. I've tried in vain to locate and buy the right cable to do this myself, so I'm asking if there is anyone around Stoke on Trent or somewhere between Stoke and Widnes / Runcorn in Cheshire who could fix my phone for me. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable price for this. I'd also be interested in, if possible overwritting the "3" software on the phone which is rubbish with something better. The phone was also unlocked from "3" to any network.
I've tried taking it to a local shop but I don't think they had the right cable and they couldn't do anything with it. My only other alternative is to send it back to Sony.
Thanks,
Neil

Hi
When you say 3 pin cable are you talking about the USB cable that came with the phone.
And what were you doing before you disconnected and the phone curled up, just transfering files?
Also do you have XS++ or Setool2lite installed on your PC ?
Have a look here http://forums.se-nse...showtopic=19840 with a bit of reading and maybe a bit of help you can do this.

Yes the USB cable, its actually 4 pin, sorry just checked. It was supplied with the phone.
I was just copying photos off the phone, before I disconnected it and killed it.
I don't have any software installed on my pc (yet).
Many thanks for the link, I will try.
Cheers,
Neil

I wonder if its because my PC no longer sees the phone when I plug it in now...
I'm also running under Linux (Ubuntu 8.04), running programs under Wine.
Ok I dont know whether there are any particular issues with Linux distro's but the blinking red usually means EROM problem and I think probably easiest fixed with setool I know about running this stuff on XP but not on Linux if you can get the use of a PC running XP or Vista I may be able to help. There is a recent post somewhere on the board about Linux that may be helpful.
PS that post is just here http://forums.se-nse...showtopic=30476 it looks like a version of wine maybe ok to run XS++ it dosent say about Setool I dont know anything about that.

The USB flash drivers for the DCU-60 cable (gg-setup) and the program(s) itself - yes, installed. The programs just sit there looking for the phone but never see it.
if holding c doesnt work try holding 2 + 5 then post results here

If you have no joy with the tut's and advise here you can always :-
you can always take it in PDR world in Newcastle (they also double as the 'walkin repair center' for MPRC (by the Cherry Tree pub) tell them to update your EROM/reflash your handset.
Or as much as I hate to say this, if your Longton based take it in the 'TMT - the mobile trader' on Uttoxeter Road (across the road from the fire station)
these places will charge you for the work though

I've tried both "C" and "2 and 5", neither seem to work. Thanks.
Hi Mattwood,
I'm near Burslem but as I travel 100 miles to Widnes and back every day that isn't an issue.
I'll give PDR world a go, I don't mind paying a reasonable price to get it fixed. I tried Mobi World in Hanley and they couldnt fix it.
Cheers,
Neil

Hi I just got back and am trying to catch up on your situation, you have tried it in both setool and XS++ with C and 2+5 yes? and you have access to and used a fully charged battery, and you figure the cable is ok because you were using it to copy photos when it got disconnected, and the connector in the phone looks ok.

Thanks Mattwood, I'll see how it plays out on here and if needed I'll follow up your lead.

Hey you look like you are in the same situation as me. Sorry to say but if neither the charger nor the USB port recognize ur phone you will need a service cable. Check this out:

You can just buy the cable from any website like Cruiser, which I think has all the prices in Sterling.
visit: www.cruisersuite.com or try ebay
In my case looks like I killed my phone....
Sorry for double posting I am doing this from a PDA...

Hi nullbesign, if you mean the USB flash drivers for the DCU-60 cable (gg-setup), then I have done that.
Cheers.
No problem and best of luck. If you fix it using a service cable please reply and tell us.
