I got my new K850i a week ago on a free upgrade from O2 and I'm pretty pleased with it except for the undeletable "protected content" put on there by SE and/or O2. The SE supplied PC Studio is next to useless because it hides the protected files from me, so I've resorted to the internet to find a way to delete those files.
First of all, let's make one thing clear - I just want to delete some files. I do not want do the "master reset" or flash my phone with any "upgrade".
I've downloaded and installed XS++ but couldn't get it to work. After many hours of searching, I found I needed a USB flash driver, so downloaded and installed that too. Those instructions could do with some work - I mean, the XS++ page fails to make any mention of the USB flash drivers, and the USB drivers page fails to make any mention of XS++. The XS++ user guide is a dead link and the newer .zip file is unreadable (corrupted?). How about an integrated "how to..." page, that has links that actually work and also has all the jargon explained for us complete newbies?
Well I finally got XS++ to work but it told me my phone isn't supported:
07:31:33| Baseband ID: C802
07:31:33| Protocol Version: 4.1
07:31:33| Warning: IMEI name does not match GDFS name (IMEI:NULL GDFS:K850)
07:31:33| ...using GDFS name
07:31:33|
07:31:33| Profiling SEMC phone...
07:31:33| Platform: DB3150
07:31:33| OTP CID: 52
07:31:33| EROM CID: 52
07:31:33| EROM Color: Red
07:31:33| IMEI: <hidden>
07:31:33| Phone ID: K850
07:31:33| Region: WESTERN-EUROPE
07:31:33| CDA: 1202-7336 R6A
07:31:33| Firmware Version: R1EA031
07:31:33| EROM: 1200-4341 SEMCBOOT R6A008
07:31:33| Ready for operation!
07:32:25| Sorry, your phone is NOT SUPPORTED
07:32:25| Error: Failed to send CSLoader!
07:32:25| FSX Shutdown!
07:32:27| Disconnected... Unplug the phone
I suspect, the phone is not supported because it is CID 52 (what the hell is CID 52 anyway?). So, is there going to be a CID 52 version of XS++ sometime, somewhere? Will I also need a new USB flash driver?
... or failing that do you have the address of the SE/O2 marketing nitwit who thought I would be happy to have megabytes of their data filling up my phone?

XS++ 3.1 doesn't support K850, and it's not because of the CID 52, XS++ supports CID 52s
CID is Customer ID, It determines the loaders used to break into your phone. The problem is that the K850 is on the new DB3150 platform, which is still under research and development. I have a generic K850 that I've never taken an interest in modding, so I'm not sure, but JDFlasher MIGHT be able to do it, and also you should check the Firmware Research and Development area for DB3150 related topics.

Nice too see you here Will
I don't use JDFlasher anyway so I wouldn't know. But since he's a CID 52, wouldn't he be able to just flash a generic MAIN & FS? If those are even available for the 850?

I don't want to flash it; I want to keep my phone just as it is except remove the protection from some files (some tones, some vids, some apps) so I can delete them. Does JDFlasher let me do that?
