Ok so i need some help.

First.

i need to know how to identify a 3G sim card.

Second.

Ok so i bought a '3G' sim card from orange yonks ago so i could use all the functions on my w900. anyway i just walked into the orange shop and asked for a 3g sim. no questions asked. and they even transfered over my old number ;) so everything works ok in 2g. But, when i try and get 3G to work it just don't happen.

I can find 3G networks and for the first few seconds when i turn my phone on i get the 3g icon then i get a reciver (from an house phone) with a red line through it then 3g turns off. This also happens when i try to access the orange 3g network, no matter what i try my 3G function won't stay on.

So, i'd like some help please :) *puppy dog eyes*

Thanks to anyone that helps :good: :) ;)

Are you sure that the area you're in has decent 3G coverage?

Do you know anyone else who's on Orange and definitely has a working 3G SIM?

erm, im not certain but im pretty sure it does. i've 2G coverage and its usually on full bars, if that helps.

im pretty sure that my mate said that her k850 always had 3G around my area.

I can't think of anyone i know though as i very rarely see her.

I could try my mates 3 sim in to see if the phone was at fault. do you think that would make any difference?

Do you know anyone with an unlocked 3G phone that you could try your SIM in?

I had a issue with my W880 when I first moved onto a 3G SIM, the standard Vodafone contact settings wouldn't work with 3G, I had to get other settings from Vodafone to work it.

maybe something along the same lines with Orange

it's not the simcard all new sim cards are 3g, the icon you get according to my k750i manual says, you cannot receive any imcoming calls, it's a problem with the phone you can get the correct internet settings from orange sent to your phone in a sms, or if your clever copy the customize.xml off the phone from tpa/preset/custom, grab a orange custpack open the customize.xml in notepad and copy and paste the internet settings to your customize.xml.

On AT&T, 3G SIM cards are blue, regular are orange colored with white.
Ok, why should I keep track of how many days I haven't used Winblows? I uninstalled it like a month ago... Linux = win ^^

I use a AT&T 3G SIM at work for testing locks etc, it's blue and white (half and half) with a flaming orange ball stating 3G on it :)

No but when you are testing UK locks and an american SIM goes through to the main menu, you generally get the idea the handset is not locked :p

SAM, I have a standard SIM card, that CAN operate on the 3G frequency.

So, it's or a phone issue, or something else.
My phones: W902i: Volcano Black, W880i Steel Silver, W595s Dusty Blue, C905i Night Black, K800i Velvet Black.

That's because your SIM is 3G enabled, not all SIM's are enabled for 3G. there is no such thing as a standard SIM in the grand scheme of things.

@Matt

Do you know how much a 3G AT&T SIM would cost? My SIM I got awhile back doesn't support 3G...

are you on AT&T now? all I can say is that UK networks will send you a 3G enables SIM for free if your already a customer... all you do is call them when you receive it and give the SIM number and they activate it to your account, bin your old SIM and use the new one :)

not sure how it works in America. in the UK we have widespreed 3G coverage and they give the SIM free as they expect to get the revinue from you using more data services :p
