I droped my K700i yesterday and after this drop the cam function is closing itself all the time after i open it.
It seems as if the phone doesn't get a signal from the cam.
I guess i have to repare it at my local service center, but i just wanted to ask if anyone experienced the same problem or if any one knows how much such repare could cost me

You could ask gbrooks3 if he has the ability to repair such a thing.

Does it show any signal from the camera at all, even briefly?

Sounds like the drop may have affected the connection between the camera unit and the phone PCB - it probably just needs taking apart and the cam unit plugging back in, or unplugging and re-plugging back in again. :)

i thought the same (sammyboy)
not signal at all from the cam
the guy at the local service point told me that wants to make a firmware update - i just rolled my eyes and went out again
i'll get there tomorrow again - if its the case that a repare would cost more then a new phone, i'll guess i'll leave it as it is

Here is a reply I was supposed to post here yesterday but I accidentally posted it in the wrong thread!

It is quite possible that the drop has damaged the camera module or even simply just one of the connections between the camera and the circuit board. I think opening it up would be required to investigate further but of course that voids the warranty (if it has any left)

Guys, I had the same problem, seems that somehow my K700i's camera stop working, Just notice that I can have a small second of the cammera, but in black screen, then just if you did not type or select anything is back to the previous screen. The camera was not working. GREAT NEWS IS that I have it working after a simple fix.- The ribbon cable connector went unpluged, due to a hard hit, even my cell did not show any damage on the outside.

I went to google and find this forum; from there I decide to open my cell, it's simple, but need to be with some small parts and twizers handle skills. You can start just by removing the battery and slide a little bit the plastic clamps 4-6 total, then you will be able to remove the front cover, then you will see a metal frame and need to remove 4 screws T6 (torx) then remove it. You will need again to apply a little force to a couple of clamps to remove the metal frame. Now to remove a couple of ribbon cables (from the side buttons, you need to pull up a brown plasic then you can slide it out the connector. Then you have the two reminder ribbon cables the keyboard and the display, these require to pull up the metal clamp on the connector then slide the black plasit part and you can easily slide the ribbon cables, these are simple, but need to be patience and use small screwdriver perhaps to move the small parts. Once you complete this you can remove the board taking care of the side button ribbon cables, you will find inside the main case the little cable unplugged from its connector it's easy to disconnect again (as you will see) if the phone is dropped, so I do recommed use some kind of adhesive tape to secure it on its place, just be careful do not cover the metal contacts for the speakers. Now you can re assembly everything back in the revers procedure.
You will see that the K700i now let you get into the camera mode and do everything as usual. YOU FIX IT NOW !!!
Should Sony-Ericsson do something since it seems to be something really easy to fix, and should not happen after some drops or if you hit your phone with something, even it's on the original case.
I blame myself to try to reset from factory and lost some of infomration i forgot to backup. but at the eand, I am happy I fix my phone. I hope you guys can do it yourselves as well.
Cheers !!!
