Hi everyone. I have a few patches that I want to use on my W580i. I got the patches from SE-NSE and tired uploading them onto my phone. Turns out I need to be using the W580_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52 and not W580_R6BC002_MAIN_HONG_KONG_LA_RED52 in order for my patches to work.

The problem however is that I need the Chinese characters on my phone so I won't be seeing squares and random characters in Walkman.

I found a few how-to port guides, but I still don't understand how porting works. I found this tutorial by dephea and here.

I have no idea on how to port patches. I was trying to follow dephea's tutorial but I didn't understand it.

Maybe you can flash to R6BC002 GENERIC and use Chinese Font ?

That's the link I gave in my first post.

Anyways, I was trying to follow that site using the programs WinHex, GExtract to extract the firmware, and the Windows program like the calculator.

I skipped step 5 since my patches were from R6 Generic so the patch base address was +44140000. I started to get confused at step 6.

I was trying to port the following patch:  mp4.rar (323bytes)
Number of downloads: 1

I have a couple more, but this patch is one of the simpler ones that I need to ported.

You must not skip step 5. if you skip step 5, you cannot go to step 6 and after that.

Don't use the calculator, if it have base address (+44140000). It happened to me.

For me, what I do is to search the exact offset for 3300670070, 3300670070 and 3300470050 in Hong Kong main. Let say if you found a few offset that have same value with 3300670070, just open W580 R6BC002 EMEA/GENERIC main firmware, check for before and after 3300670070 value for both firmware. If similar, then use that offset. It works for me when porting W800 patch from EMEA to APAC.

If you still got problem, please upload W580 R6BC002 firmware for HONG KONG and EMEA into my 4shared here http://sefiles.4shared.com . I will download and do it for you. Don't upload anywhere else, only 4shared can give me 800kbps download speed at my office (for rapidshare, I need to wait and wait and wait again).

All right. I'll give it a try again. I don't think I can do it anytime soon though except for the weekend due to homework. I want to try and do it by myself first since I don't want to always rely on people =)

I need to download the R6 Generic firmware first since the patches originated from R6 Generic right? Then afterwards I'll search for the offset in WinHex or whichever program is recommended. And if there's more than one, than just apply the patch to R6 Generic to see what's changed before and after the patch.

Since my patch already have the base address of (+44140000) I get to skip the step saying "5. In calculator set “Hex” (1), copy offset (2) from patch to calculator (3), press - (4), input 44140000, and press =".

I think I got stuck in step 6 because, I extracted only the R6 Hong Kong. I missed probably the most important part of that tutorial.


Hopefully, my homework load will diminish by tonight so I can mod my phone some more.
