OK - Great forum - loads of stuff, respect to everyone who answers questions or codes, but I've looked and I cant find a simple solution that tells me the following - in plain easy to follow COMPLETE instructions.

I have a UK Virgin Mobile W810i that makes a shutter sound ALWAYS ( the one I lost but was 18 months old would be silent if the phone was on silent, but it's changed on my new one - I hate it).

All I want is to kill the shutter and focus sound, either permanently or selectable - but leave EVERYTHING ELSE alone. I'm not interested in unlocking, unbranding, tweaks, mods or anything. i.e. Absolutely minimal risk to my phone!

Is there a guide on doing just this? ( i.e replacing the shutter / focus sound ).

Applicable questions that I would like answered.

1) Backing up GDFS? ( If I need to )
To access and read this data off my phone, do all/any of the utilities write something to the flash? (i.e a special program or loader etc, that means then reflashing something even if no changes are made). Or is it possible to do a completely passive safe read of the GDFS which doesnt actually download anything at all to the phone?

2) Apply question 1 to any other sections of the phones flash that one would like to backup.

3) Can I ALWAYS revert the phone back to its original ( out of the box ) settings if I make a backup of the GDFS or will it always have some sort of hack/patch in it once I start messing.

I might not keep the phone if I cant kill the shutter sound - I have 28 days to decide, but if I break it / or mod it unsuccesully - then I'm stuffed!

Thanks

you can supress camera sound by turning on the "Silent Mode". but to do this you have to change "customize.xml" file in tpa>preset>custom. copy the customize.xml into your system. open it in notepad and look for "supress camera sound". change it to "true"(if it is false. by default it will be false). copy it back to the phone.

First of all, u have to know, that since u are using w810, the old method for transfering file from or into your phone is by using FAR. If u use FAR method, then u must flash the breakin loader to view your filesystem. But the newest one (by using the newest XS++), it's been simplified to view your filesystem, so no need to flash the breakinloader and reflash it by the original firmware (just like after using FAR), its automated. For the tutorial, I'm not going to tell in this thread coz it's been a lot in sense about the How To, including the videos guiede. To remove the camera sound, just go to /tpa/preset/system/sound directory. Then, u can choose which file you want to delete.
For the GDFS, it's better to make the backup first before modding your phone. It's just with one click, and save that file in a safe place. In case something wrong happened that need to restore the GDFS, you can use that file.
Yes, u can always revert to the original one, but not by using the backup GDFS, but by flashing the original Main Firmware and File System Firmware (FS Firmware) + the custom pack.

Download a program called: XS++ (google it). Here are the steps:

Start the XS++ and connect your phone

Go to this directory: tpa/preset/system/sound

Search for 2 files named shutter sound 4 and autofocus

Delete both files and click SHUTDOWN on XS++

Turn on r phone and go to camera -> Settings -> Shutter Sound -> select SHUTTER SOUND 4 ->get out

that s it. The sound will disappear even if u are in normal mode on your phone.

Try using FAR manager.
