Hi all,

I recently got a W800i housing from a seller on eBay, and after I installed it, I thought my keypad had given up the ghost - pressing keys 1, 2, 4 and 5 gave some very weird results. Noooooooo!

I panicked, and thought I had ruined my keypad thru electrostatic discharge or something. Then after I replaced the housing with the original, everything worked fine again.

I reassembled the W800i housing, and noticed the buttons for the volume & voice record (or media player) seemed to engage the microswitches even when off. I slimmed them (very slightly) down using a razor blade, and this fixed the problem.

Just thought I'd share to help anyone experiencing this problem, as I've not heard of it before.

Cheers,
mysticwhiskey

EDIT: When I said "slimmed then down" I meant shaving a VERY small amount off the silicon/rubber protusions on the switches.

Nice work, thanks for the info and welcome to se-nse :)

(This may be better placed in the Modding or Hardware sections though)

Did you shave off parts from the end of the bit that presses the switches to make them shorter? I can see this being a tricky one to explain in words, pics may be best ;) :D

Hi Mik, and thanks for the welcome (I've been a closet lurker for a while). Yes, I shaved the rubber bits that actually contact the switch. Didn't take much shaving though.

Nothing like buying a new phone, modding it and then thinking you've ruined it! Such an anti-rush, if you know what I mean!

Cheers,

lol, I can imagine your worry ;)
Good to hear you sorted it.

Was it an original housing by the way or an immitation?

I don't really know, although it *was* sold as a genuine OEM SE housing. Compared to previous housing replacements i've bought for other phones, it fits VERY well. There's a batch # screen printed on the chassis (which may or may not mean anything?), but it's similar to the original K750i number.

Well as long as you're happy with thats all that matters :)

PS- no need to quote posts directly above yours. I realise there is a button on each post which says reply but this is actually to quote that post in your reply, the one next to it saying +quote is to mark several posts to quote in your reply.

To reply without a quote simply use the Add Reply button or even the Fast Reply to be quicker but with less options ;) :)

@rabvtec

can you add this trimming suggestion into your guide perhaps (How to Rip apart a K750i)? or make a note in it since its a VERY handy tip..

i had to do this when using the W800i keypad but only my joystick was acting all weird.. so i had to trim that area down and once i did, up = up and left = left.. hehe...

peace
