VLC is good but you can't customize it. With mplayer you can almost do anything to the video or audio output. Mostly video. And you can watch a dvd in a 400MHz machine which has at least 4MB vram without a fuss. I used to have that kind of a machine.

Nah not the DVD's. But to be honest, the only CD's I ever download are netinst ones for Debian. I get the rest from online repos.

Yeah you can do that since you have dedicated broad band net connection. :p
Me I don't have that luxury. :(

i use linux sometime for internet use like browsing and downloading.

but i always use LIVE version , that too small one like PUPPY/SLAX , i love both of them.

i already tried most of the LIVE versions available even the Bigone .

i switched to linux just because my PC was hacked with KEYLOGGER 2 times, so i started using LINUX, hoping that with this hacker will not be able to access my PC. interseting thing is that this keylogger was remotely installed in my PC, AS I DONT VISIT UNTRUSTED SITES, ALSO DONT OPEN UNKNOWN EMAILS ALSO DONT RECEIVE ANY FILE FROM ANY UNKNOWN SOURCE.

I tried WINE like tools in live versions, it can open most of my softs( gsm/cdma) but i didnt try , if they actullly works for flashing or unlocking.

if anyone of you have tried it, pls share it.

regards
AshwaniGaur

nah it doesnt work for flashing/unlocking I wouldn't trust wine with such an important process either.  personally i have xp osx86(dont use much) and ubuntu installed.  im permanently in ubuntu, xp is really only for flashing or when i must use dreaded powerpoint or something for school.  you should go for a similar setup:)
