3G has allowed roaming between Europe and Japan, but it is also ushering in a new era of mobile manufacturing in Europe with Japanese manufacturers looking to play an increasingly important role. Does this mean that Europe is on course to become the most technologically advanced mobile market? Europe is certainly a much bigger market than Japan and Korea combined, does this bode well for Europe becoming the dominant power in mobile technology?

The Japanese and Korean networks stil offer much more than over here, it's more part of their lives than an accessory. I think as most of the hi-tech companies are based over there they will still always have and advantage, but we will catch up. Companies like SE will be at the front as they have interests over there too, as we are seeing with the So505iS becoming the S700i, I'm sure that trend will continue

People from Japan and Korea are more technology freaks than people in Europe. I think we are rather conservative. We don't use WAP to the same extent as people in Japan and Korea and therefore we wont see radical changes here. Things are making progress pretty slowly here in Europe but when it comes to computer we are just like them. Most of us would rather use their laptops in a hotspot than wapping with your mobile phones. I am one of them who prefer this way to do my business.

That may have bene true for a few years, but within the last few years we have seen a real rise in the usage of the mobile internet. Europeans are very much interested in accessing online content and this is creating demand for more advanced services e.g. paying for goods with one's mobile, etc.
Europe could become the most advanced market, but only if the demand for such technology actually exists. Europe is in a limbo state at the moment, halfway between the Far East and America, both geographically speaking and technologicaly speaking.

i voted yes, because;
in the summer of next year O2 plan to launch a HSPDA network, this is the reason why the haven't made a big thing of their 3g. This HSPDA network is said to have bandwidth per device between 3.4mpbs and 14mbps, this will be done simply by upgrading some software which will be done by nortel shortly.
O2 will be the first to offer MobileTV in Europe, and at DVD-quality, not those rubbish analogue tranmissions nokia are getting into. We are talking 16 channels such as BBC1, ITV etc...
Also with these speeds, you will be able to have mobile broaband anywhere, any time
besides NEC, and possibly SAMSUNG, who do you think will be first of the mark

My Blog - It's new, be nice :)
In reference to the recent UFO crashing into a wind turbine up't north, suspected "an ultrasecret robot stealth aircraft project hinted at by MoD";
"El Reg rang the MoD for clarification as to what material it has which could be classified as more secret than top secret, but a spokesman said: "That's so secret it's beyond above top secret, I'm afraid." ®"

I'm sure I read somewhere that SE and NEC are working together on being the first to bring out a handset for it.

Battery life is a huge concern, hopefully a new generation of fuel cells will help solve the problem.
