Perhaps you didn't connect the aeriel properly when reassembling the handset? I would suggest taking the handset apart again and making sure everything is connected as it should be.

i recently did a housing swap for my w800i but because i bought a crappy cover where the paint started to peel and the clips keeping the casing on started to break ive had to put the phone back into its original case, only thing is as described by others my lcd backlight doesnt come on, the screen itself is working fine otherwise its just near impossible to see anything unless there is an external light source! as far as i can tell all the contacts are in place so i cant think what the problem could be unless its related to the fact that the joystick now refuses to work at all
i also have another bizzare problem, the camera seems to be playing up a bit in a way that if the shutter is closed then it works but when its open it says please open shutter again cant think why :S
any ideas anyone ???

The camera problem you mention has been encountered by other people I believe. Make sure that there is no damage to the camera ribbon and that it is connected properly.
bradley1886 had a similar problem in this thread. Here is my reply to him, it contains some links you might find helpful.

I've got some strange idea in mind, but I'm not quite sure if it's possible to realize ... and I just wanted to hear your opinions
I think everyone knows that the camera sound can't be shut off in some Firmware versions (like mine ^^) ... so as I saw your guide, I developped the idea to built into the phone a small switch onto the speaker on the backside, so you could manually turn it on and off ... so ... kind of a hardware-fix
I know that it sounds strange, but warranty's void as soon as you loose one single screw of the cover ... so why don't do something original when voiding it
Just let me hear your opinions, or eventually other tips on my idea

Would changing the firmware not be simpler? Or would I be right in thinking you can't have that for certain languages?
I would say try it out, sounds like a neat mod, not very helpful to many memebers here, I think most of us can get rid of it through software anyway

how'd you do it in my place? I've got the newest EU_3 Firmware on it (R1CA021) ... but I haven't found a solution to flash it to a EU_1? Have you?

I took my time following your directions. Took two hours, in fact. When I completed reassembling my phone, it would not turn on AT ALL, which seems to be the first case of this happening in this forum.
Any ideas? One thing I noticed is that the power button doesn't seem so solid.... I was thinking it may have been a case of that not making the proper contact with it's designated counter....
Can anyone please HELP?

The first thing to suggest is for you to disassemble your handset again and reconnect everything, making sure everything is where it should be and firmly in place.

Since posting, I've made it home and plugged my device into it's charger.... Just as I suspected, it functions just fine, except that the only way to actually turn the device on is with the power button.
I've now taken it apart and put it back together about five times..... a pro of sorts! hehehe...
Anyone have any ideas on what I may have missed with the power button? The buttons seem to typically "click" or pop to their function. At present, my power button isn't at all.... seems kinda lazy.
Thanks again...

A) not putting the main board in place properly, there was too much tension on the power-on button, and this caused loss of function to joystick(down and left), left softkey, 1 key - I couldn't even invoke service menu for testing
B) a badly manufactured camera button, didn't sit correctly, causing pressure on camera 'focus'(half button press), and NO picture taking
after 3 attempts to sort it, I used the original button, and all ok again! But a good example of how precise you need to be with this kind of operation!! Hope this helps....

try the power button when the mainboard is not in the phone, ie: without the rubber "button" getting in the way. Does it still feel lazy? As you say, it should "click" soundly. If it doesn't the switch may have become damaged. If it does click niceley, then you only have an assembly problem getting the power button correctly located so that it presses the micro switch poperly.
