What do you think of the P910's successor? Is it less than what you expected or does it satisfy your needs? Will you be buying it or will you await the P1000? What do you think of the design?

I voted for "Good, but not hugely exciting". These specs were already known for some time. The deciding factor for me as to whether it's good or not is WiFi. Whether it has WiFi or not remains to be seen though.

@Eggy

That was the option I choose too. It looks to be a good handset, but it just doesn't seem to have the 'wow factor' that perhaps many people were expecting after Nokia announced the N series. Of course we were expecting such specifications for the P910 successo, but they are still a little less than exciting.

I will be interested to see if it does support Wi-Fi; how much memory it has and if it runs UIQ 3.0 or not. If it does have Wi-Fi and a HDD then it could still be a 'great' handset.

Well, judging only from the specs, since the one picture released is smaller than your average avatar (:p), I'd say "Good, but not hugely exciting".

@scots

I think it runs UIQ 3.0 and does have WiFi if earlier rumours are true. Who knows though...

The handset on the picture appears to look good but it's indeed hard to tell ;)

@Eggy

Well we shall just have to wait for more information I suppose.

@morphus

I have a feeling that that may very well turn out to be the general consensus.

Specs are really known for some time now. The problem is the fact that several persons are mixing up the stuff.

I voted for the second one. SE will bring the device as a normal upgrade of the P910i not as something new in my opinion. I am really keen on the screensize, because the resolution will change. It will mean that the screen will go wider or become less high. I think the first thing.

Let's hope they make something nice.

Lets hope this is a nightmare :p

All i see is very ordinary features :( I do hope this is just an upgrade and not a new series.

Not really a smartphone guy but I would definitely look into if wifi is included. I think it's a good successor to the p910 but really needs to be released [in stores] before years end.

The phone will have ordniary features. The only new things are:

- UIQ 3.0 instead of 2.1
- 2.0 megapixel camera instead of VGA camera
- UMTS extra
- Second VGA or CIF camera on the front
- Better processor => From 156 to 208 mHz
- New looks

That is all I need next to Wifi. The MPx style phone is for next year, so.......

It looks ok. Nothing revolutionary but still good. If the specs are good it should do very well. Some day I'll get a Pseries, when? Well I have no idea but I wouldn't mind this one :)

It will make a good smartphone I'm sure and it will probably attract many P900 users who didn't upgrade to the P910 and P910 users desperate for a new smartphone.

The uber geeks? I think we shall wait for the real killer smartphone.

@ scots, could it also be that this will lead business professionals to get a UMTS phone ?

"Good effort, but could do better"

They're obviosuly saving the "WOW" element for the P1000. It's hard to come by and they probably don't want to waste their precious supply on an update to the P910 :p

From an aricle published on mobinaute.com:

Quote

 Other Smartphone envisaged to be marketed this time at the end of the année/début of next year at Orange France is the successor of the range of current Sony Ericsson P800/P900/P910i and has for the moment only one code name "Sony Ericsson Hermione". Julien Billot specifies nevertheless that it will always turn on an operating system Symbian and that it will be 3G! Although the design features of Hermione are not communicated yet, Orange already signed an exclusive dealing agreement to market it only within its network, all at least for a given period of time.

The article is refering to Orange Francais.

@Eggy

Good point! :p This looks as if it offers enough of an upgrade over the P910 to male it worthwhile, I never really thought that of the P910 in comparison to the P900.

Well, if it turns out to have WiFi I would say yes. If it doesn't I would say no. The difference in design is also more apparent in this model opposed to the P910i than the P910i was to the P900i :)

We still don't have the memory confirmed either or its media playing capabilities.

i don't think there's enough known yet to really get excited about. it'll improve on the p910, which will predictably put it among the best smartphones available but beyond that there's little to spark my interest.
Do, or do not. There is no try.
