PART I - The superficials

Here is a nice guide i put together for all who like to take expensive things apart tongue.gif

It is a tough mod actually, in my experience it is on a similar level tothe p-series. But i dont mean to put you off, give it a go!

Have fun tongue.gif

1. ok, lets do this. Now remove the battery cover (lol that will be the easiest thing you do in this mod) Unscrew the 4 screws you see, and keep them somewhere safe smile.gif

2. Now, use something with a blunt blade and skim around the edges of the back cover, turn the blade now and again and that will release the catches.

3. Use this same technique for the front cover, be careful of the lcd though, expensive to replace smile.gif

4. Now you should have something like this. Dont be fooled my young friend, we are far from done smile.gif

PART 2 - DOWN UNDER

Right, lets have a look under her skin shall we. hmmm, she is mutton dressed as lamb methinks wink.gif not very nice at all!

1. Remove the kepad system: Just rips it off, be gentle of course, its like unplugging anything, it really is that easy.

2. Next lets attack the lcd, exactly as the keypad......just unplg it from the board. smile.gif

4. Hopefully you now have this:

5. And what do you know, yes you guessed it....lets unplg the camera from the baord aswell.

6. Now, lift the board free, use the knife again to unclip it. And pull it out from the base connector.

Note - i will make a special part for them camera, coming up next...
_Sensible
PART 3 - The Camera

1. OK, so now the board is free from the case. What do we see? We see the camera lense and the ribbon. Now, unplug the ribbon from the actual camera, then lift it free.

2. Dont forget to remove the little sticky pieces and the flash led's, they just lift free with a knife very easily.

Great, thats it. ONe completely dissmantled K750i

PART 4 - RECOMPOSITION (The Final Act)

Now all we have to do is put our new housing on. Just retrace the steps and you will be fine. Couple of tips though, put the button in first....they can be tricky.

Then, once done lets hope you have something looking like this.

And thats that, folks. Personally i dont like it all that much. Will be putting a new black housing on it asap.

Any questions please ask, i know there are plenty of others who have done this, i am sure voda jon will help when he isnt playing with his balls tongue.gif

That is amazing. Really really good. I always wanted to know if it was possible. I always wanted the w800. Now when I get tired fo the k750, I am "upgrading" to a w800.
lazzzz
Great! Thanks gbrooks. Just bought myself a W800i fascia laugh.gif
Ginz
Thanks G.

Before the end of this week, I hope to recieve my silver housing. And now, because of you I know how to do it.

And about the looks. I fully agree, the K750i housing looks better then that ugly W800 (T-Mobile) housing
noj_tsuj
if only i hadnt recieved mine today it would of bin sooooo much easier than me jus flyin by the seat of ma pants this mornin as i did.... its a lot harder than gbrooks' guide makes it so jus take it slowly ppl an b careful!

Nice thing to say when I just bought a W800 housing lol sad.gif
_Sensible
I have to agree, the K750i housing does look better......but you might like it smile.gif
Star
The w800 is more kiddy, the k750 is more classy.
Dyce9984
G mate, do you think it is possible to change the middle bit of K750 (the silver part) to the W800 orange, and also change the light behind the keypad to a V800 blue ?

If so, how would you do it smile.gif
_Sensible
dyce smile.gif

looks orange to me smile.gif

LED's easy peasy (i hope) havent had the chnace to get out the old soldering iron for a while, now we can have some real fun tongue.gif

Great idea smile.gif
lazzzz
That is a good idea laugh.gif White LED's are boring :tired:

The D750i looks worst of all. The K750i looks classy and the W800i looks like it came out of the "My First Sony Ericsson" series...
lazzzz
Everyone is against the W800i now I've just bought the housing lol

Lol, there are plenty of people who like the W800i's looks. I just happen to prefer the K750i's.
scotsboyuk
I rather like the W800 myself, but I think we should concentrate on discussing g's guide in this thread thank you. smile.gif
superluminova
That looks very nice! I do prefer the k750i fron and back cover, but i prefer the mainframe of the w800i.

Its also a shame that the all the w800i covers i've seen have d750i keypads and don't have the ms slot cover confused.gif
_Sensible
Yeh i guess the release housings will come soon enough though. These are from SEMC factory china i would imagine and only containing some parts.....

So, do we think Black K750i with Blue LED's would be an improvement? I could see it on the silver one put i just cant picture it on the black model............
superluminova
how about red or orange?
lazzzz
I don't think red or orange LED's would look right on a black phone confused.gif

Orange LED's is a good idea for W800 housing though smile.gif
marran
Doesn´t anyone want to paint it in some other color?
:loon:
Eggy
I wonder how the Orange W800i frame will look with the Silver K750i covers. Lol, it'll probably look rather silly anyway. The main thing that I don't like about the D750i and W800i is the keypad...

I'm sure if we ask gbrooks nicely he'll show us?? wink.gif please g, please....
Dyce9984
I want to attempt the following, I have a black K750 at the moment.

Make it matt black all over, including the silver section of the camera cover.
Then put the orange mid section from the w800 instead of the K750 silver, and then blue light for keypad.

This is my dream for the moment, but no idea how I could do the lights smile.gif
lazzzz
Good idea Dyce smile.gif I might actually paint the silver parts on the camera cover.
It doesn't look right with silver on the back. Especially that stupid silver piece of crap on the battery cover lol

Won't cost much to get a new back cover if I mess it up laugh.gif
sidneylopsides
Easy way to do the blue keypad would be to cut a peice of coloured plastic to shape and lay it over the top of the PCB. I'm sure that's been done to the T630 before.
I think red would look quite good on a black phone, black and red usually work well together.
_Sensible
@dyce, well keypad is tricky. Easiest way is as sid suggests, but it can be done properly/ LED's are not attached to the pcb but to a kepad operater.....which i am sure could be changed a little smile.gif

@superluminova,

awesome idea, and wow!
Zesty2005
Can't believe i see all these Voda branded has-beens still with the Vodafone logo sticker on...slide a stanley blade under and it pops off :-)
sidneylopsides
Some surface mount LEDs and a steady hand would do it, but seeing as we are working from white LEDs a colour filter would be fine smile.gif
superluminova
@ Gbrooks3:

That looks awesome! I can't wait to give it a try!
Eggy
It doesn't look too bad. maybe the black part around the screen should be orange too to make it complete smile.gif

.. or silver tongue.gif
_Sensible
@Eggy,

there is a limit to how often i can change everything, the screw heads are nearly stripped tongue.gif

I will let someone else experiment...............superluminova perhaps? smile.gif
superluminova
i will do once i get a k750i to play with, hopefully it will be sometime this week laugh.gif
_Sensible
great! I look forward to seeing the result smile.gif

Black still my favourite though smile.gif
superluminova
How about this?? i made it up in photochop, I like it! I'm gonna do this :J

Looks better than the silver keyboard!
scotsboyuk
@super

That does look nice I have to say. smile.gif

Many many thanks for this information, the camera in my k750i had been broken for several weeks with no hint of any fix and I recently found that it is a common manufacturing defect (loose cable between camera and main board) and with your help I dismantled my phone and reassembled it and my camera is now working again.
_Sensible
Great, Yes i also had a few camera issues, you just need to make sure everything is back in its right place smile.gif
LadFromWales85
wow, that silver back and front, with orange middle does look niiiiice!

But as gbrooks said, can't change the phone around too often, each time you do it, those poor screws and screw holes will get ever more worn.
McKinley
gbrooks,
Great step by step guide.
How would it look if you had a black front and a silver back?
_Sensible
I guess it would look silver on one side and black on the other. tongue.gif

It looks ok i suppose, prefer all black though smile.gif
noj_tsuj
yah i jus changed mine to silver front an back an orange middle... looks much better... gonna keep it tha way now... laugh.gif
LadFromWales85
voda_jon, do you think the voda silver and w800i middle combo would look better than a plain w800i?
_Sensible
@LadFromWales

Suggest you read the whole thread.

http://www.se-nse.com/forum/showpost.php?p...55&postcount=29
LadFromWales85
yes dad

and why you give a link to a post entered by you, when I was asking voda_jon's opinion on whether he preferred his creation or a stock W800i, is beyond me!
_Sensible
Thats ok son,

Well, i was i assumed by the tone in your previous post that you wanted to know what it looked like (by the inclusion of "would"). I was only trying to help.............no need to get on a high hoarse.........
McKinley
LadFromWales85,
Of course but I wonder how the real life appearence is.
I can imagine how cool it would look like to have a black front and a silver back.
