Its relativley easy to fix a water damaged k750i/w800i,

!!!!Please Note!!!!
Only preform this if you think there is nothing else you can do with your water damaged Phone!!!!
Do not preform this on a working phone!!!!

After recently droppng my k750 in the bath and leaving it for an hour or so without noticing, it seemed as though there was no hope for this once spectacular phone, but i had an idea.....

WD40

This amazing substance has never failed me before so i decided to find out if it would this time....

Step 1. Remove the housing of your water damaged k750i/w800i or see this topic..
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtop...;hl=dismantling
Completely remove the PCB (or main Board) and charger connecter (at the bottom of phone) from the housing.(ps, its a good idea to dry these components for a good hour before performing the next step).

Step 2. give the PCB and charger connector a good spray with WD40 and leave it to work its way in to the phone.

Step 3. leave them to dry for about an hour and reinsert back ito the housing regardless of the amount of solvent on them (the more the merrier!!)

Step 4. attempt to turn on the phone, if it fails or you have a white screen, reflash your phone (this is probably a result of the water damage).

Step 5.your phone should work and the WD40 would have removed the water from your phone and will protect it form further water damage!!!

Great Stuff.....WD40

Phone: previously water damaged k750i.

Is this better than letting it dry? What about using Electrical Contact Cleaner (Just a guess?)

Yes, This guide is for repairing phones that are dry, but may be damaged by the water in the future (Rust, etc.......)

Question?
Mine good old w800i (codename bessy) was once upon a time donked into a bucket of water, birthday party, lots of alcohol, pockets not zipped up (lots of tears) lol, i just left her to dry out for a few days and she's working fine, well not exactly sad.gif everytime i stick in my memory card my screen goes white and she's dies untill i remove my memory card, so now i have a w800i with a total memory limit of about 30k which kinda takes the walkman out of my w800i walkman phone as i can only fit like 8 or 9 full songs on her lol, will doing this fix my memory card issues or has she blown a chip?

Hey its my first post..... Now im a true se-nse member lol well i remember back when i was just a wee lil lad making my first post here ahh the good old days, hehe spoken like a true elite member (maybe one day huh) lmfao

I dropped my k750 into a glass of water, only the bottom half was wet. still worked absolutely fine while it was dripping wet and next day BAM! wouldn't turn on but i plugged it into the mains and there was a red light on the infa-red bit took out the battery turned on vibrated and off again then got the battery from an old broken z520 good as new ONLY THE BATTERY BROKE.

Please try inserting a new battery into a water damaged phone before discarding it.

expensive phone + water = should still work

batteries + water = DEAD

if your k750/w800 is broken and u don't know why take out the battery cover, battery, and sim and look at the side of the sim bit and look for red plastic if its there WATER DAMAGED

you may have damaged the memory card itself. I had a batch of 'dud' memory cards which gave a white screen when they were inserted, but the handsets were fine with a new memory card.. (just a thought)

this may be true but also water damage will get your handset in the long run.. due to how PCB's are made up water can get into the many different layers and slowly corrode the contacts/tracks. Its always best advice to take the battery out straight away and leave to dry/if you competent enough take the handset apart and clean the liquid off again straight away or after with IPA (electronic alcohol cleaner) as this will stop the corrosion around surface mount components.

@ALL
A little note.
Since I' have dropped my phone multiple times into water, Im pretty experienced with it.

The first thing you need to do right after dropping the phone is NOT to check if it works. instead TAKE THE BATTERY OUT VERY FAST!.
Take your phone apart as much as you can and let it dry for 3 days, guaranteed it will work.

take the keyboard off and see if there is any shorts around the connectors.

dudes, have a dead K750i that fell in water, it is completely dead... it does not even detect in XS++, or any other sony ericsson modification tools. it is as if the battery is dead... but it's not! cause the same battery WORKS in my other phone, w810. ive tried changing the battery of the k750 one to a new one, but the same thing happens. the computer does not detect it, or show any loggs. it's like as if the phone was not connected. pluggin on the charger makes the infrared blink, and then off again. the phone does not go on at all. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Flashing led normally points to a damaged EROM.. but due to this being a liquid damaged handset that may not be all...

Hi All,

One fine day, my buddy and I were drinking-- the usual beers and some crispies and munchies to go with it. After going through my tenth, my K750 fell into A BOWL OF AGED AND SPICED VINEGAR which was the dip for some of the munchies!!! (Now how'd that happen?)
Anyhow, I right then and there used improvised tools to open up my phone. I cleaned out the board and housing and everything else with Lemon Joy and water but after four repetitions of that the pungent smell of the Vinegar would not go away. I then proceeded to clean out the board and other parts with Isopropyl Alcohol-- the kind used for disinfetion (it had a slight tinge of perfume on it) I thought that would remove the smell but no joy (sorry for the pun)
After giving up on trying to get the phone to its unflavored state-- I used a hairdryer to dry and get the parts heated for a few minutes. I put everything back together and VIOLA! the thing powered up and worked as if nothing happened.
I avoided putting the thing n my pocket fr a couple of weeks till the smell dissipated though.

Prior to this (about a year ago-- the phone was perhaps just 8 months old) I was in the tub and my phone was with me (as I was expecting an important overseas call) I got the call in the middle of my bath and the phone slipped from my hand and landed in a pail of water!!! I was flabbergasted !!! I retrieved as soon as my brain digested what had just happened it and it was still working.

I like it for the camera mostly and it is a Hardy phone this K750--- with the exception of the LOUSY JOYSTICK which I'd had to replace half a dozen times and the LED Flash which doesn;t work anymore, and the Keyboard LEDs which have gone kaput since.

Cheers

I'm strongly recomending sthing like NC123 - this is product is created to wiping water out. i saw electric engine working under water after beeing cleaned with NC 123. eek.gif Very googd stuff. Much better then WD40.

I'm going to sticky this as it's very good advice - and I can't stress how important it is to remove the battery AS SOON AS YOU CAN after the water damage has occurred to minimise the chance of corrosion on the mainboard starting.

I've used the WD-40 trick a few times with mixed results - though one thing I will say is avoid getting and WD-40 onto the mic of the phone if this is soldered onto the mainboard, I've killed a couple of mics after using WD-40. It's also revived a sticking and unresponsive joystick on a K750i too! I've also tried the trick on a moisture-damaged PSP but I think the water damaged happened too long ago and it hasn't worked sad.gif

@lark - did you leave the phone to dry for a good day or two? Try taking the phone apart again, another spray with WD40 (avoiding the mic) and leave to dry somewhere warm for a good few hours at least and try the phone again smile.gif

i've tried connecting it to my computer via usb cable, it detected the phone for awhile... again, the phone still vibrating endlessly when i inserted the battery... and when i plugged it to the charger, the infrared light is on so i'm starting to suspect that the battery is only the problem...i'm gonna change the battery first... i'll let you know if it worked out or not.. thanks for the advice Sammyboy...

guys..i really need help right now.. i tried putting a new battery again, it just kept on vibrating, i went to a repair shop to get my phone checked, the repair man said it has some problems with the PCB already, he also said he could repair it but it has a slim chance of revival, i don't want to spend money on an unsure repair... any advice guys?... thanks...

PS: immediate response would be very appreciated... thank you again...

He he... Now that you are a true se-nse member you should help poor sigamhsoupw (that is me) who's writing his first post here to ask you for help. Exactly the same thing happened to one of my 3 k750's some days ago... The worst part is that the damaged one, is the newest 100% scratch free. After reading the "opening the housing" I managed to give my old ones 1 new lcd, 1 new camera, 1 new joystick and finally a brand new battery (taken from the new one) but it will be nice if I could make the new one work with the memory card... Thanx smile.gif

So, this means that the phone is still in use but the keys and joystick are not working properly? Well, in that case, you should fine a keypad from somewhere (if anyone of your friends has a non working K750) you could open it, take the keypad and then open your phone and make the change. Now for the joystick, you can't do the same because I think it's soldered in the main board (or however it's said, english is not my main language laugh.gif )

Another advice from me.

I saved a water damaged K810i.
When charger were inserted, it started blink red on the IR.
Tried to connect it to SeTool Lite and XS++, but no luck.

Solution:

I Dissassembled the phone that were water damaged.
Used Vigon EFM includes brush on the PCB (Motherboard). Spray it on all around the phone.
Use the brush much around the connectors.
After 5 minutes with active brushing the phone, I got the phones life back to the world, but another problem occoured. Everytime I tried to start the camera, I got the following message: "Another application is running. Close it and start the camera". I solved the camera problem by connecting the N3100 3-4 and 7-8 pins together.

Now the phone works like a charm!

Good luck! smile.gif
Boysie
Thanks pampi, thats good advice. thumbsup.gif Quite how you figured out to short those pin connections I don't know! tongue.gif
pampi
Thanks Boysie!
I was looking around the net, and experimented it. smile.gif

Now I have another problem I can't solve.
I bought a C510 water damaged phone, but can't get this one back to life...
It recognizes that I start up in Bootrom Mode in A2 Uploader, and when I hold the C button, I hear the USB is connected, but can't reflash the phone.
It only says "Bootrom mode", unexpected...

Does anyone have any ideas? Btw, bought this phone on internet and thought I could fix it, but this time it was more complicated for me... Tried new battery, but still no life on it...
I will try to spray it good with Vigon EFM and electronic cleaner spray...

If anyone have any suggestions, please feel free to inform..
