Hello All!

This is a short review that i made regarding the S/W in the W705, R1GA030 - APAC-ANZ version of east asia. Even though i'm in Srilanka (South Asia) i decided to use Code Claw's CDA Extractor and did an update through SEUS. I got a 3G Modem and i did an update and this is what i found out.

The usual SE Themes and all the usual stuff, except for some things.

1. The USB Menu is changed,

2. Browser went through some changes, 

3. Settings menu doesn't have the usual tabbed browsing type, instead it is been given as a list. 
4. Games run like they are from a computer. (Run fast and smooth)


5. The phone comes with a user guide. Complete to use and know the functions from basic

6. The phone also comes with a new "Sony Ericsson Companion", loaded into the phone. If you connect the phone to a pc the phone will automatically set a Virtual CD Drive on the pc and run the drivers from the pc. It transfers the contents and start the work. So you don't need the driver cd where ever you go. 

7. A bug is that flash files don't come smooth in wallpaper. They go jitter like.

8. The media center is the same. But the album art is not displayed on the album list.

9. Wifi network sharing didn't work. I don't know if that was on the phone or the pc side.


Apart from those things i just reverted back to the old version of R1EA033. Looking for a way to come up with a good S/W.

I would also like to know if i can use any of the patches for R1EA033? (since i'm not using the new one) I liked the patches that were in the forum on R1GA026, but unfortunately can't get it to my phone version.

WOW! Thanks for you friend, i was considering a new sw version to my w705 but i think i can wait for a little, and people like you who share their opinion is very useful and could help a lot, the pictures are great too.

P.S.: If you like the settings layout i think Blacklizard made one for the first one firmwares, just look in the search box

yes i also recently upgraded my firmware to R1GA030 from R1GA026.

One problem that i am facing in both the firmwares is that when i open a page with security on the phone browser i.e something like "m.gmail.com" or "m.ebay.in"when using GPRS it works well, but when using Wi-fi it says "communication error. Turn off your Wi-Fi or contact your provider for support".

as mentioned above...
1) the list thing in settings doesnt look good to me....but its k...doesnt bother me much too.
2) the album art bug is something that needs to be sorted out
3) flash lag i dint find it...it was okay for me

so yes i am still waiting for a stable Generic firmware from SE.


BTW look at this link HERE. It says R1GC001 is released. after R1GA031...now the latter has passed by without my notice :-s
anyways could someone find out the CDA for R1GC001 and also if its generic or branded??

Well installed R1GC001 on my W705 moment ago.. The laggy flash wallpaper bugs still exist in this FW version.

i got the CDA no., telstra....but from where did u get the cda-revision i.e. R7A??
and does this FW solve my 1st problem?
also just the customize.xml file needs to b changed right?

Save the code as customize_upgrade.xml

And the only way to know is to try it

oki...now it feels like a noobie to ask dis ques...but how do i backup "my words" dictionary...:-s
rest everything can b restored...that is really frustrating to add words again every now nd then...

I was planning to update my phone from existing R1FA035 to R1GA030 (W705) but i think its not a right time to update.

hi, i try also everything but the laggy flash wallpaper animation is still there! so my opion keep R1FA035 that is the best!
