Hi All,

Having another problem with my w995...

Not sure what I have changed recently, apart from installing the Facebook app as a homescreen feature.
But since doing so I think it has caused some sort of problem with the Youtube app and the iPlayer site.
In all fairness I have not tried the iPlayer site prior to realising that Youtube has stopped working now.

Basically:
When attempting to steam a video through the Youtube app over WiFi i get a blank screen, no sound, but the scroll bar is moving along in time with the clip.

When I access iPlayer, the site loads up nice and quick, when I hit the play button it says "Connecting to media server", then "Connected to media server" then it has a different black screen with a buffering logo spinning, then a message pops up saying "Failed".

I then turned off the WiFi and tried Youtube again and using 3G/GPRS this time it worked.
iPlayer seems to be really slow to load when using 3G/GPRS so I closed the browser.

I doubt its my router settings as all other systems work perfectly online (using a Draytek 2820n on BT Broadband (If thats any help)).

I can also download using the WiFi (Downloaded a full 90MB program from iPlayer in about 4-6min).... Just the streaming fails

Any Ideas, Please help.
Thanks

I get the same problem. But with any connection on DB3150. Any help?

Youtube gone down?
mehtaman
Hmm... I doubt it as it works over the Orange GPRS settings just not over my WiFi connection.
Ly
Streaming settings are the issue here I think...
I only ever get my streaming to work with WiFi if I create a blank setting for streaming and select that.
mehtaman
I'll try that now...

WiFi Fails when to stream when:

I run the Youtube App
Access iPlayer via browser
Access Youtube via browser
(I get the Connecting, Connected, Buffering, Failed sequence)

But all the above works using orange GPRS sad.gif

The blank settings option didn't work for me.
Ly
Blank settings has worked on all WiFi sonyericsson.gif phones for me. Tried debranding?
mehtaman
The phone is totally debranded I'm just on Orange so I have to use their settings.

In doing the debrand I lost a lot of custom apps put on by orange:
such as an iPlayer app, it would show up in Media>Video>iPlayer (along with the Youtube app)

I also no longer have a facebook app that was far better than the one you can download from this site...
The one that came on my phone had tabbed menus, one for the homepage, one for your profile one for the inbox ect...

Unfortunately I didnt take a backup of the file system before playing about with the phone. opps.

The blank thing is still not working... I deleted every single stream option I had, opened the youtube app and it asked me to create one... made a new blank stream setting but it did not work.
Ly
That I'd assume your router needs some sorting out, even though you think it may not.
mehtaman
hmm that has crossed my mind, but I'm not to sure what the streaming settings come under.
I'll try a few things now...
mehtaman
I've tried accessing youtube with the router firewall turned off, access control enables and the phones MAC address added to the allow list... not sure what else i can try.

I also remembered that I downloaded an .ODF movie from the Sony PlayNow site:
http://www.playnow-arena.com/movies/

Free movies provided by Sony for the compatible phones...

when I first loaded the movie it asked me to select a region (UK), could this have effected anything???
Ly
No I don't believe that one have mattered. I think it's just some kind of info for the PlayNow site possibly...
