This is my first post in this great forum and I believe I will get the required information from you guys.

First of all, I am happy with my W850i, and nothing wrong with it regarding its operation. I don't have enough background about the firmwares, custom packs, EROM, etc and all the things related to firmware patching, but I am reading through the forum and I am learning.

What I want to get is to set a password on Messaging folder for privacy.

When I connected to XS++ v3.1 it asked to update the CID to 52 and I didn't apply it, because I am not sure what will happen next,

1. Am I going to lose my phone languages, which are
M EAST N AFR (English - Arabic - Persian-Farsi - French), please advice.

2. In case of any problem and I wanted to flash the firmware am I able to flash the following firmwares with RED49
W850_R1ED001_FS_M_EAST_N_AFR_RED49
W850_R1ED001_MAIN_GENERIC_CY_RED49
because I couldn't find RED52 for M_EAST region only I found the Main
W850_R1ED001_MAIN_GENERIC_CY_RED52
then if it's not possible to flash with RED49, and I have to stick to RED52 for flashing and FS is not available for M_EAST, then which FS should I use and how can I bring back the Languages specified above?
FYI, I could get the Custom Pack for my region
HB1-06_Gen_CDA102568_109_R5A_GENERIC_M_EAST_N_AFR

Hi there.

First thing is first: back up your phone using my phone explorer.

Yes, update to CID52: this means that you will enable patching for that platform. After thats done, make a GDFS backup.

Then, you need to use CID52 firmware, to make it generic. But, read the w850 patching thread to see what firmware (if any) that has the confidentially patch.

You wont lose any languages, if you use the same FS as youre using now (dont forget to use a genric custom pack: check http://topsony.com for the CDA number)

Use XS++ to flash it. Guide: http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=23459

Use FAR and JDFlasher to patch it. Guide: http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=27775

Simple download for FAR and JDFlasher: my signature (the bottom link: search in programs, extract to anywhere on your hard drive, and create a shortcut to FAR on your desktop for easy access - everything else is ready)

I could get the CID52 firmware

W850_R1KG001_MAIN_GENERIC_CY_RED52
and the custom pack for the same region

but this firmware R1KG001, is it the latest one?
and what advantages has over R1ED001?

And are these files are enough to start flashing my W850i?

I will first flash my phone with the latest Firmware R1KG001 and then I will search for the Patches I am looking for and hopefully I find what I am looking for...

I've flashed my W850i to R1KG001 successfuly, great great the phone is working just excellent.

Ask.

What you need to do now is create the QA patch, then using JDFlasher, patch that to the phone, then use the QA script to patch your phone further (read the JD Flasher guide I posted a link to)

No. The other option is setool2lite, but thats slower in patching and is more complicated in my opinion

Dear cchaos,

Flashing was done successfully both with XS++ & Far and to apply QAPatch and after carefully reading FAR and JDFlasher Guide you've posted earlier http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=27775

I got an annoying error...

I've tried to re-flash my phone almost 5 times but without any hope, first I thought maybe I flashed it with XS++ that Far Manager clash with it, then I also flashed it with Far Manager but the same error appeared.

Please what do you think is the problem, I need to apply QApatch as I have found the Patch I am looking for.

Use cchaos' new qa2020 script here...

...backup you old qa2020 script and copy/paste the new one and save as qa2020.xml. You should then be able to enter bflash. smile.gif

The error he gets as do I is when entering BFS. It will fix your problem for entering bflash. smile.gif

Another issue, I am trying to create quick_access.vkp file by dragging the MAIN file on qamaker.exe which is in jdflasher, but on the black window it says "can't read"...

Maybe this is why I got the error message, becasue i've created quick_access.vkp from the qamaker.exe which came with SEtools and applied it in jdflasher...

What do you think?

I have qapatch created by qamaker which comes with SEtool2...

But when I want to create it by qamaker which comes with jdflasher it says "can't read"...

OK...

I managed to creat "quick_access_W850_R1KG001.vkp" by qamaker from jdflasher.

Now I will apply the new script and hopefully gonna work...

Unfortunately, I didnt know about that error with the old qa2020 script until late last night, and I was too tired to recompress and reupload the whole lot back up to my skydrive. I will fix this ASAP (but not tonight as Im having to use a slow internet connection).

As for the "second error": that was me trying to enter BFS (an error that me and boysie seem to get at the moment)

I apologise for not replying until now, but I havent been able to online until now.

Thanks boysie for pointing showmak in the direction of my posts I made yesterday after I had fixed the censored.gif error.

Great dear cchaos,

I don't believe I could manage to flash & patch my phone in less than 2 days without any backgrounds, what a great feeling.

You and boysie, were great helpers and I learnt a lot from you guys.

And In fact I have applied the patch which I was looking for long time ago, the Privacy Patch and I have installed it successfully on my W850i and it's working remarkably.

The patch I found it in another forum and added it in this forum as well, here
