I have a Vodafeon branded K800i. I have just left Vodafeon and so had it unlokced using a code they gave to me over the phone. It now can except any SIM. I noticed on the Vodafone webiste a section about updates and after much thinking and then googling has lead me here. So my querstion is: Is it worth upgrading my firmware when i have been quiet happy with it for the last 18 months and also i do do upgrade will it re-lock my phone to Vodafone, as i've read thsi might happen.

Thanks
Boysie
If Voda gave you a code to unlock, then flashing the FW will not re-lock it. Only patch unlocks need to be applied after flashing. Its worth updating FW especially if its very old and if you want to patch it. smile.gif

Thanks for that info.

The next question is which firmware do want to upgrade to? What is the difference between them? I've seen the link to SEuser and there seems to loads of them for K800i. By the way i have a red52 (from XS++) phone and i am in the UK.

Thanks again
cchaos
Well, sign up at seusers.com and download:

MAIN: http://www.seusers.com/forum/local_links.p...amp;linkid=3149

FS: http://www.seusers.com/forum/local_links.p...amp;linkid=3148

Custom pack: http://www.seusers.com/forum/local_links.p...amp;linkid=7465

Dont forget to back everything up using my phone explorer first
bluepowell
Thanks for that. I've downloaded those files and i've got the stage where i have backed up to create a GDFS file. If it all goes wrong can i put it back to it's working state using that file. Also the turtorial i am following is the first one form the turtorial menu on this site. It goes through convertig a K800 to a K810. Is it worth me doing that instead of flashing with new K800 firmware? What is the difference between the 2?
Boysie
All yours cchaos... tongue.gif
cchaos
GDFS: thats a last resort really. Those files that I gave you should work.

k800@k810: You gain track ID and photo fix, but its a hassle as you have to use the k800 lighteffects (and even then the top keys dont actually light up under camera)

Personally, I havent bothered with it on my k800.

The phone is a k800: its the k800 light effects you have to use. I think I know what guide the poster is using (Diezils XS++ guide) where it says:

K800 into a K810 READ ON!!!

Now since I’m flashing a K800 with K810 Firmware I need to upload the K800 light effect files so that my keypad will light up correctly (well almost lol.gif when you start the Camera there will be one row of buttons that wont light up (no biggy)---------).

EDIT: no I wouldnt of tongue.gif and you proved that tongue.gif

Right, well i've flashed the phone and now once i've put the firmware back in i get a message stating "configuration error. Please contact your network operator or service centre"

What did i do wrong?

CAn i fix it?

Boysie
You haven't uploaded custpack to tpa/preset/custom. wink.gif
bluepowell
OK.

So do i just go through the flashing process again?

I did tick the customize file system , then selected own custpack (rather than the K800) from the dropdown menu and then in the folder i have XS++ i have a file structure set up as tpa\preset\custom and then the files in the download. Is this correct?

Thanks again
Boysie
No need to flash again. Start XS, connect, click 'FSX' then 'StartFSX', wait for a while then navigate to tpa/preset/custom and copy your extracted custom pack to there. Click 'Shutdown FSX' and your done. smile.gif

Thats brilliant. It has now worked. Thanks for all of you help.

Of course i now have new questions.

The answer key now goes straight to the web even i the phone book, where as it didn't before, it would ring the person highlighted. . Can that be changed. Also i have a blue box around my signal icon. CAn that be removed, or is that theme related.

I know what you mean: the answer keys are part of the vodafone branding. I look into this as Im curious about it myself (note: this may take a while)

As for the "end call" key: that will now be a link to the "activity menu", until I can work out the hooks for them (dont worry about it too much: I will see if I can everything right so all you have to do is upload it to the phone)

Hi.

I've just noticed that when I connect to XS and it reads my phone info it does show that the firmware has been updated. Reads is as R3A022, and also region is displayed as VFE_LIVE_2. Is this an XS error?

Also after having a root around the forum i've seen lots of cool new menu's and fonts etc. Is that easy to do. I've downloaded the Vista tranformation pack. Is there a tutorial on how to get this onto my phone as i cannot seemt o find one?

Thanks again.
cchaos
Hmm thats interesting. Did you flash the FS?

Fonts are pretty easy (esp if you use diezil's fonts) - not worth doing until we find out whats going on with your FS

Transformation packs should have folders etc in them showing where to upload stuff to (unless they are png files)
bluepowell
Yes i flashed using k800_r8bf003_main_generic_wi_red52.mbn for main, k800_r8bf003_fs_europe_2_red52.fbn for FS and from the drop down menu i used K800 and EUROPE_2 (CDA102511/2) (K800). the first 2 files were provided earlier in the post. XS reported that the flashing was successful.

cchaos
Im still pondering as to why the FS is being detected as vodafone confused.gif

Boysie99 any thoughts? To me its a sign that the phone is starting to die (which I certainly hope not in this case)
Boysie
Hmm that is odd. Almost like it hasn't parsed the customize.xml correctly. Try flashing the FS and custom again and then post log please. smile.gif
cchaos
Just done a search of that CDA: thats actually for Generic Trade UK United Kingdom

Try CDA102568/11 (thats genric europe_2)

Source: http://www.topsony.com/forum/cmps_index.php?page=CDA_k800
bluepowell
It does seem very odd as all vodefone stuff has gone and the menu's and button configs are are now generic etc. Hope it's not dying as i've just "upgraded" to a rubbish phone with T-mobile to get a free Wii (more modding fun! he he) as i really like my K800. Mostly due ot the excellent camera.
Boysie
The custom should still work. CDA102511/2 R6A is what I use.
cchaos
Try the above, and see what happens.

Like I said though: its very weird and normally if its dying it would of given errors before now.

Im using CDA102568/207 R2A myself tongue.gif
Boysie
Flash FS again and try another custom like cchaos suggested. smile.gif
bluepowell
Okey dokey.

Have to wait untill tomorrow as my battery is nearly dead and i've left my charger at work.

Thanks again for all your help so far!
cchaos
Hopefully it will be sorted (this time, though still found nothing on the internet button and activity menu yet) smile.gif
bluepowell
Right, so i've reflashed, using the custpack that i downloaded and XS is now showing the the firmware has been flashed to the new one. Not sure what i did differently, but it seesm to have worked.

So now aht should i do to pimp my phone?

I've downloaded this tranformation pack

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?autocom...p;showfile=1273

And seen other cool ons with a kind of spinning menu. Are these easy to put on my phone?

Also i've seen a vid on youtube with the flash of the camera on as a flash light. Again is that easy?
Oh and i've seen posts about walkman V2, but was a bit unclear as to whether i can put this on my phone? Againis this possible for a Noob like me?

Thanks.
cchaos
Just downloaded it myself to have a look.

First get the QA patch installed: read JD flasher: advanced usage

Then connect via QA2020 script and enter bflash: flash the *.vkp files to the phone. Disconnect, take battery out, reinsert and reconnect via QA2020 this time to bFS: upload the sounds and splash things to TPA/PRESET/SYSTEM/SETTINGS. Disconnect, take battery out, wait 20 seconds and puit it back in. Turn phone on (should work!)

Upload theme to phone in normal manor (eg file transfer or by my phone explorer). Set the theme, and enjoy.

Hi.

I'm having some success.

I've managed to change my menu using the guide on this link

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtop...8142&st=140

so now i have some cool new purple icons and also my play now link in the top left of the menu has been replced by a walkman icon and l,ink sot KD player.

Now i;m thinking of changing my font and have seen this guide.

http://akapu.wordpress.com/2008/01/26/how-...-db2020-phones/

Is this a good way to do it as i noticed on Boysie99's signiture there is a patch pack and one of them is called "change font in main menu". Would i be better to install this patch and maybe some others that are in the file. Is it using patches that i can change the signal strength, battery and other icons ,and remove the opperator name etc?

That would lead me onto asking how do i apply pathes?

I've read on other bits of the forum that i need to apply a quick patch patch, or something. Is there a guide to installing patches as i cannot seem to find one?

Thanks agian for your help!

Boysie
All you have to do to change font is upload *.ttf files and associated fontr.xml to tpa/preset/system/fonts.

The patch you're on about only changes the size of the font in the main menu.

Look in tutorials for guides on patching. smile.gif
cchaos
Patching:

If you havent done the steps in this guide then you need to do them (well, the QA part anyway): http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=27775 though Ive described most of this above.

Fonts:

Font collection: http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=29333

Download, uncompress and upload to TPA/PRESET/SYSTEM/FONTS (if they include a fonts.xml). Personally I would also make a baakup of your fonts.xml in case they dont work for some strange reason (which you can do from the phone when you have QA patch installed). Also Im using the PS_V2 font from that collection.

Im not too sure about that patch, but I havent used it.

EDIT: Boysie99 beat me to it rolleyes.gif
bluepowell
Hi.

After reading the JDflasher general usage and advanced usage guide i have a couple of questions before i start.

The advanced guide says that i need to flash my MAIN and then apply the QA patch created using the QAmaker. Do i also need to flash the FS and custpack again at this point? And if yes do i apply the QA patch before or after i re-flash the FS and cust pack? And will re-flashing my MAIN cause the current changes i have made to the menu icons fonts, accoutics etc the revert to the original versions?

Thanks again (and hopefully this will me my last mither for a while. Lol)
Boysie
If you are not flashing a different version, then there is no need to flash FS for enabling patching so you wont lose your menu modding. smile.gif
cchaos
No, just the main is fine
bluepowell
Brilliant.

Hopefullt if all goes well you won't be hearing off me for a while.

Thanks again for all your help.
