Flashing A2 phones with A2Uploader

Flashing phones is not risky as long as you follow this tutorial. Still, I ,photographer, nor the se-nse.net staff or members will take responsibility in case you kill your phone by not following this tutorial. You do this at your own risk.

This tutorial was written by SE-NSE.net moderator Photographer and belongs to se-nse. Therefor this tutorial is NOT to be published on any other website. Linking to this tutorial is always alowed of course.

Is my phone A2?
These are all A2 phones as of 06-09-2009:
C510, C702, C902, C905, G502, G705, K630, K660, K850, T700, V640, W595, W705, W715, W760, W890, W902, W910, W980, W995, Z750, Z770, Z780.

Why would I want to flash my phone?

  • Debrand (Remove Vodafone, Orange, etc crap)
  • Upgrade to increase performance
  • "Reset" everything you modded
What do I need?

Which firmware do I need?

The latest firmware always has the highest number/character combination. e.g. R3EA037 is newer than R3DA031.
If you want an unbranded phone you have to choose a generic firmware, this will be stated in the name. For example W910 R1FA035 MAIN GENERIC SH RED52.
Always choose the right FS with your main firmware, these are the languages that are included in the different FS versions:

Regions and languages for A2 phones:

Let’s start!
(Be sure to have the USB drivers installed, run GG setup that comes with the A2uploader archive)

Before we start your battery has to have enough power left, 80% or more. Flashing with a low battery percentage can kill your phone.

Main screen:

This is the main screen of A2uploader. With the identify button you can check your IMEI number, current firmware and device name.

Add the firmware:

Press the button add and select the main firmware file you just downloaded, it must have a *.mbn extension. Now pres sok, you’re back on the main screen and the firmware file is added to the box.
Again press add and now select your FS file, this file must have *.fbn extension.

Press flash:

Press the flash button.

Now the program will ask you to hold C and connect your phone.

Turn off the phone, hold C (see picture below) and now insert the USB cable while holding the C button. You can release the C button when new text appears in the big box on the left.

(If holding C doesn't connect the phone connect while holding the 2 and 5 key, this applies for W760)

Woo! We’re almost done!

A2uploader will now flash the firmware. During this process do NOT disconnect your phone.
The green bar at the bottom will show the progress of the flashing operation.

Flashing my phone took ~400 seconds. Flashing newer A2 phones will take a bit longer as the firmware files are larger.

A2 uploader will say “ready” at the bottom when the flashing process is done, now you can safely disconnect your phone from the USB cable.

Congratulations! We’re done… oh nos! We have to add the custom files to make the phone work!

You can get the custompack from here:
http://www.esnips.com/web/A2Customfiles
or from most of the sites where you just got your firmware files from. Again the custompack needs to suit the region you chose for your FS.

What to do with the custompack:
Remove the two firmware files that are in the box and add the custompack you just downloaded (still ZIPPED!!!) to misc files with the “…” button.

Now press flash and connect the phone again holding C, like we did before. Then wait till A2 uploader says “Ready’ again and disconnect.

You can allso manually add the custom pack, unzip it the zip file, press filesystem tool on A2 uploader, connect your phone while holding C (check back for an in depth description) and then navigate to tpa/preset/custom and drop all files from the zip file there.

That was not so hard was it? Congratulations for making it all the way down here and happy modding!

Respect: the_laser for A2 uploader.

Changelog:

P.S. Do not PM me with questions about this, this tutorial can't be clearer.

Nice thumbsup.gif! I always wondered how to flash with A2Uploader doh.gif shy.gif . I prefer the SEUS way, but now I can link to your tutorial when giving guidelines to newbies who want to flash their phones the old-fashioned way tongue.gif

Good tutorial thumbsup.gif
A small addition, if I may say so...
Why do double the work?
When I flashing my phone, then just choose the main + FS, then add customization to misc files.
So I have to connect the phone only once.
And another thing: not all phones need to hold "C", but some need combination of buttons "2+5"

Here's a pretty interesting case. I'm not 100% on the following though since I can't seem to find the firmware again.

So I found this NORDIC W715 firmware a couple days ago when I was stupidly tinkering with my phone. However, if I remember correctly, the files weren't .fbn and .mbn and stuff. I believe it was just one huge file. How would you upload that with A2Uploader?

Thanks for the tutorial. I tried 5 different firmwares along with quite a few matching custom packs from different sites. I always ran into the "configuration error" problem, until a lucky search turned up "Customize.xml", which I modified to match my region, accepted language, and CDA. And then voila, my K850 worked. It was kind of stupid, now that I realize I could've just cracked open the custom pack's zip file and popped those files in \TPA\PRESET\CUSTOM\ manually...

Regardless, it turns out the write script was never writing anything to my phone.. After each write, I would check \TPA\PRESET\CUSTOM\ with FileSystem tool to find... no files. Could anyone give some insight as to why this happened?

Anyways, thanks again. And to anyone who's having problems with the custom pack, try using FileSystem tool, and copying the files in the zip (or just Customize.xml) to \TPA\PRESET\CUSTOM\.

(Fix'd the directory.. Sorry for misleading anyone.)

I would be carefull with that... I don't think A2uploader will accept it anyway. There is no W715 firmware on topsony yet, nor on seusers and any of the others sites... Just G705 and W705.

when you com to adding cust pack it doesnt work if you click write script.

it works if you click flash

Haha, no clue.. For all the ones I tried I was always stuck with "Configuration Error", until I figured out my mistake. Right now I'm using R1EA037 America, because it happened to be the last one I tried. From my very poor knowledge, I'm guessing latest firmware = less bugs (so I'm probably gonna update to R1FA035). Though it also depends on what you plan to mod and/or what's modding is available for that particular firmware -- I think tongue.gif.

Nope.
Airfl0w
I rememeber i converted my s500i to a 'w' series and the signal problem occured. It was strange.
Jinx13
I have flashed mine and other phones numerous times, just like probably everyone else here. No-one had problems with signal that i have heard of wink.gif
Airfl0w
Well I had it on my s500i which i converted. Would this risk w910i of domaging quickly?
Jinx13
I never had a problem with a damaged phone due to flashing wink.gif

Anyone here tryed flashing there w910i and got it 100% functioning? Probaly the flash was bad.

I flashed my w910 and it works fine....why do you ask?....i really have no problems with it...the signal is ok...it responds normally....only problem is that the firmware i use is R1fa035 and it's a bit buggy, meaning that from time to time..the phone resets but it's strictly a firmware problem..not related to the flashing procedure...
Airfl0w
I would'nt want a phone which ramdomly restarts lol... Why didnt you reflash it?
