Ive tried following the unlocking guide to a T and have still been unable to unlock my 580

I backed up my GDFS
Ive applied to QA patch to the main firmware
Ive applied the Simox autopatcher to the main firmare using QA already exists button

Yet the phone is still locked to AT&T

What Im thinking is the SImox autogen isn't correct because the QA generator and main firmware aren't to blame

Please Correct me if Im wrong or post some helpful info so I can get a better understanding of unlocking

Use a newer FW and try again

Sorry, I don't understand this bit?!...

To generate the unlock patch, drag your main *.mbn file onto "SIMLockPatchGen.exe" and a vkp file will be created in the "vkp" folder called something like "Remove_sim_lock_?????????(You phone and FW).vkp".

Then just apply this patch in the normal way with JDFlasher, SETool2lite or whatever and your phone will be unlocked.

Corman is correct in saying use newer FW cos yours is outdated but it shouldn't make any difference to the patch generator.

yes thats how ive been using the auto gen and i get a REmove sim lock XXXXXX.vkp

and i have tried to upgrade to R8 but when I did everything again when I enter my sim it says network config. error

The "Configuration Error" is because you have not finalized your phone. By which I mean uploading your custpack (CDA) files to tpa/preset/custom.

Do the QAPatch procedure with the R8 firmware. Flash FS and CDA, then patch "remove simlock patch" and your done!

I read teh unlocking guide and it said to put 2 files into the FS folder and then do some cmd stuff with a _raw folder
but what does that mean?
