Full Version: [W900] Using Wotanserver to Flash a W900i

Following on from the discussion in this thread, I thought a brief tutorial on flashing the W900i via Wotanserver would be handy for those interested in using this possible Davinci Team rival. Of course, this can also be used (albeit with a variation on the files required) for different SE phones.

Before we begin you will need the following:
  • DCU-60 USB Cable (which comes with the phone)
  • DCU-60 USB flash drivers (download from here)
  • Wotanserver client v0.9.201 (down from here)
  • Wotanserver credit (these are only available by Emailing them direct at 7 Euros per credit: info@wotanserver.com)
  • A fully charged W900i
It is important to make sure that your W900i is fully charged before flashing as you wouldn’t want it turning off mid-flash!

Once you have been sent a username and password you need to login with these details on the Wotanserver site. When you are logged in click on the ‘Flash Files’ link which will then take you into a directory full of flash files for various Sony Ericsson phones.

For this example we need to go down the following route: w900_cid49 > R5BC004 > generic

In this directory we need to download the following main file and file system files:
  • W900_CXC1250057_GENERIC_SA_R5BC004_RED49.wtm
  • W900_CXC1250058_EUROPE_2_R5BC004_RED49.wtf
Save both these to a convient place on your computer.

Make sure that you have backed up ALL vital files and information stored on your phone as they won’t be there in a minute!

Turn your phone off, remove your SIM card and memory card (if you have one) and then fire up the Wotanserver client. Whilst holding down the ‘C’ button on your phone connect the DCU-60 cable to the W900i and then press ‘Start’. The client should detect the phone, if not just select ‘W900’ from the drop-down list.

Nearly there! Click on ‘Main’ and select the W900_CXC1250057_GENERIC_SA_R5BC004_RED49.wtm we just downloaded and then click ‘FS’ to find and select W900_CXC1250058_EUROPE_2_R5BC004_RED49.wtf. In the CDA list above these two it doesn’t really matter what you chose. For example, I went for CDA102418/10 - Generic Germany.

You’ll notice there are some tick boxes within the client as well, the only one we are interested in is ‘Enable full-featured Networks menu (2G/3G)’. The other options aren’t applicable to the W900 so just ignore them.

The last one to tick is ‘Finalize’ (this is very important). And with that you’re ready to go. Cross your fingers and click on ‘Continue’ and good luck!

Give it 10 minutes to do it’s thing and when it notifies you it has finished just close the client down and remove the DCU-60 cable along with the battery for a few minutes. Put it back in and power up.

You now have a newly flashed unbranded phone!

Please note that by using this guide and/or flashing your handset with new firmware that it is done at your risk and that I will not be liable for any damage or data loss you may incur. Just to cover my back there!

It's very easy to use, although there is room for improvement. But I'm sure with each update it can only get better.

Good to hear the flash went ok!

Thanks for that - I have successfully flashed my phone to the latest firmware!!!!!

However, I can now not get onto Vodafone Live (and therefore can't find how to watch the mobile tv I am paying for!!! I have been to the Vodafone website and had WAP settings sent to my phone, but this has not helped. Any suggestions?

Also, do you know how I can get rid of the operator logo?

Cheers!

I had similar problems I must admit. But I went to the Sony Ericsson site and had the configuration texts sent to me free from there. Worked a treat.

Finally got it sorted (settings were not installing properly for some reason)! Any idea on how to get rid of the operator logo (off topic I know)? I have done a quick search of the internet but can't find anything that actually removes it.

wotanserver services sucks badly.
Their client crashed with no reasons at the end of process and left my w810i not functioning.
I tried to contact them but there is absolutely no support so you are left on your own. I would suggest to
use alternative services instead of crappy wotan server.

I have to disagree with you there. I've been having trouble (my phone ended up in 'filesystem recovery' mode for over 24 hours) and they replied within 24 hours and returned my credits so I could try again.
You do have to check on their homepage before you start though as they seem to update the client often which is a bit of a pain as you only find out after its downloaded a 25Mb file and tells you the client is old.
