Hello Smart Firmware Chaps

The mission:

Create downloadable starter packs containing relevant files, apps, etc that newbies need to start modding so they don't have to search through various links, etc.

Objective:

Make things easier for modding newbies.
Make things easier for smart firmware chaps; newbies can be pointed towards inclusive packs instead of asking you repeatedly about where to find different things.

We need volunteers for this project.

And name it 'Operation se-nse a help #1' and it will contains:

-Basic FAQ about flashing & patching this phones,
-Basic Elfpacks, libraries and Dyn_const.bin's for all phones,
-and One Big Modification Pack with configuration files for all phones...

I think the elfpack is not so good to newbies.
Because they dont know about update lib and others.
Then when the phone restarts with a new elf and your lib is dont have the functions they will cry!! heheh!!

well 1st i think every1 must read tutorials in tut section...and then there wont be much problems like the noobs now got

so 1st thing u guys gotta do is make them read or leave modding
(now i see lot of guys modding their fones...who even dont have a gdfs backup...from where the hell they r gonna get a backup if gdfs dies )

If someone starts the project with basic elfpack/lib/dyn_const things I'm there for W880. Could create a script for setool lite which will automatically install/patch the elfpack, copy the elfpack files onto the phone and install the most used elfs with a simple default configuration. I can create this and upload it but someone else must start a thread for this.

About the "must read" of tutorials: other sites include a quiz into their registration forms with questions which have answers which can all be seen in the FAQ. So they have to read the FAQ before they can join and post. Something like this with questions like
"What do I do if I have a problem?"
1. start 3 topics in different sub forums with the same quetsion
2. write every user who could know the solution a pm
3. Read the tutorials and Newbie section, use the search, read the pinned threads

could maybe help, I don't know, maybe this opens the eyes for a few newbies

Guys, you can make the bloody title of the forum to be what a nub is searching for , he won't look, you know nubs as well as i do. A nub can't stand not posting dumb stupid topics asking something that we don't understand. From 15 nubs , 13 will post without even looking at the first page of topics.

Nubs should understand the basics of forums , you have to read something to get something, you don't ask for it a million times, basically, our chances of making this succeed are minimal. One nub will come to seek our advice , 5 others will post stupid stuff. Easiest way to fight this is to STOP answering dumb posts that have already been discussed somewhere else.

wrong! posting links like "forum.se-nse.net/search.php" or dont answering is very bad. Its just too much information for now for a newbie startign to mod his phone. We just need to make a big pinned thread with a long FAQ. Its not that we have to update it regulary, we just have to do it one time. We have specialist for everything. i.e. I can write a general FAQ about the non-smartphone-phones, other graphics people can write about layout.xml and the modders even can post a little overview of whats possible and what is not. It would easily doable on a weekend, even with lots of languages (as there is nearly every language written on this forum) and if we get the permission we can upload a lil mod-pack

Then you need "feeling" if newbies dont want search or dont KNOW SEARCH.

I 'll use this idea if you give me permission!!

I am planning on a complete overhaul of the technical forums to both help newbies and to try and cut down on the number of threads asking you chaps for help.

One part of the strategy will be a total overhaul of the FAQs and tutorials, which I will be asking for help with at some point so anyone who wants to volunteer to write up FAQs or tutorials please feel free to send them to me.

The other thing that is probably going to happen is that the structure of the forum will be altered to make it easier to organise topics.

That's not a bad idea. I might see if we can include something along those lines in V5.

A troubleshooting guide would be a help with answers to common problems e.g Configuration error saves it being explained over a million times, Also a seperate section for people with dead phones.

Edit another suggestion.
The customizing firmware forum is a mess, theres stuff everywhere impossible to find anything it needs subforums. something like

acoustic/cam/display drivers,
patches, sub forum gfx patches
elfs
flash lite sub forums , menus, wallpapers.
menus
walkman skins

great idea ...
i dont consider my self as a noob i can add patches and elfs .. change menu .. layouts.. drivers etc ...
but every time i enter the the desktop wars thread .. i feel depressed .. i feel so noob
so the idea is every expert modder - for every mobile - to create packs of complete modifications and add them in a special threrad

its no-sense to discuss and separate new people. yeah site-map will be greate.

but every1 want a live answer not pre-written FAQ. and hard to understand if its unpractical.

and mentioning thing impossible which are possible nowadays creates confusion among new members.

lets be honest the search here is ridiculous,
search for "flashing" lol,
you get most threads ever posted in results,
sureley there is a half sensible php coder here (admin) who is able to sort this search out,
as imo there would be a lot less "n00b on crack" type questions posted and threads hijacked etc etc if the search facility was more accurate.

and the end goal of helping peeps who are just starting out would be more comprehensively covered.
