Full Version: SeTool2 Lite Doesn't Recognize My W200i...
SE-NSE Forums > SE Firmware > Newbie Forum

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to follow this tutorial (how to tweak a w200), one step at a time, with SeTool2Lite 1.08 (also tried with 1.10 and 1.11), but it seems like this SETool doesn't "find" my device (it's recognized by the PC Suite thought !).

I tried in "Telephone" mode, in "Memory" mode, also tried to "plug the USB cable while holding C"... Nothing works : the SeTool just keeps loading and loading again without any "results" (i.e. for reading the GDFS)...

I have an "unbranded" W200i (by the way, it's an "i" not a W200 - would that be the a big issue ?). No operator logo, the lastest firmware. Working very good with SE PC Suite etc...

But somehow I can't figure out why this proceedure doesn't work here. Did I miss something ?

All I want to do is
- to change the theme for a more "elegant" one
if possible black & white / classical theme, not that fancy orange default theme by SE.

And most of all,
- I want to definitely have more volume in my headset !!!
For a walkman, it's surprisingly LOW (and too much bass aswell, I'm a sound engineer, and it's disgusting the way this phone add low frequencies and COMPRESS the hell out of the music I'm playing !!! It's so annoying).

Anyone kind enough to help me out on these 3 points (flashing, changing the theme, and changing the acoustic driver for a compressor-less / bassboost-less / higher volume sound) ?

Maybe that I'm asking too much out of this little phone, you'll tell me ! ^^

Thanx in advance for your time and patience. This forum is a goldmine for geeks like me !

I've investigated a little more, and it seems that when I plug my phone holding the "c" key (after removing / replacing the battery), my WinXP doesn't ask me for these famous "Flash Drivers" that I also downloaded from the thread... It's like it doesn't need it / doesn't detect the "Sony Ericsson flash" device.

Remember : Sony Ericsson's PC Suite recognize the phone perfectly (no issues with the Update Service software aswell)
Maybe that I did something wrong here... Anyone ?

What always works for me, is installing the Gordon's gate flashdrivers, located in the SETool2 package. Try installing those

I tried these drivers aswell (right clicking on the .inf, selecting "INSTALL" for a manual installation)...

The weird thing is that when I hold the "C" button on the phone, and that I plug it in the computer via the USB cable, Windows XP doesn't ask me anything (no "new hardware found" windows).

Are you sure this "flash driver" is not installed by default with the Sony Ericsson PC Suite application / Update Service ? Cuz it seems like it (hence why Windows doesn't "need" a driver in flash mode).

Small question, but very important : do you switch off the phone before trying to enter it while holding C smile.gif?

Positive (of course !)

I figured out my question was too specific to be under the main w200 topic.

what I also figured out :

my w200i has a cid53... That's why SeTool2lite 1.11 wouldn't "recognize" my phone.

Anybody found a workaround for flashing a w200i with a cid53 ? It's a debranded phone, so I don't want to "unlock" it, I just need to patch its acoutics (for at least louder headset sound).

Thanx again !

Well, if you bothered to read that topic properly, you would see that JD flasher can flash and change the drivers for CID53

Just no patching on CID53, but then if you read that tut you would also see that theres no patching for the w200 (regardless of the i, all SE phones are i's, we just tend to drop the i)

EDIT: 500th post

Congrats on your 500th post (then you must KNOW something about SE).

Alright, so I won't be able to patch the acoustics until SeTool gets updated to support CID 53 RED right ?

Thank you for your time Phonetech.

My guess is JDFlasher will support your phone. I'm not too sure about this, but I think it can access your W200i's FS. Besides, for changing acoustics patching is not needed.

Thats right: JD flasher supports db2012 CID53 as well as db2020 CID53 FS and flashing: so the accoustics will be no problem

But as with all db2012 (w200 and k320) phones: theres no patching no matter what the CID number, unless you have a box/dongle and setool2 full

Acoustics location: ifs/settings/acoustic

I think what you're misunderstanding is the difference between "patches" and "acoustics".

Patches are text files that contain HEX values to be changed in the MAIN firmware itself. These text files end with .vkp and are parsed by the software to change the values in your phone.

Your acoustics are files that end with .apf. They do not require any internal value changing of the firmware. You only need to replace the old .apf files in the filesystem. Thus, acoustics are not known as patches.

So you can use Far Manager with the JDFlasher plugin to access your CID53 filesystem.

As phonetech said, these .apf acoustics are found in ifs/settings/acoustic/ in your filesystem.

Look for guides to install and use JDFlasher, use the search.
