Hi,

I turned my w800i on today only to find the main screen blank and flashing white every few seconds which i think is called a WSOD. It's completely unresponsive to the buttons and the only way to turn it off again is to remove the battery. I've installed these USB drivers (link) but whenever i connect the phone to the computer with XS++ I get the following error message:

CODE
13:37:45| XS++ v3.1 (Darwin) Ready !
13:37:45| Executed on Microsoft Windows Vista
13:37:50|
13:37:50| Attempting to open the interface...
13:37:50|
13:37:50| TURN OFF PHONE!
13:37:50| Hold 'C' button on phone and connect phone NOW.
13:37:50| You have 30 seconds...
13:37:50|
13:38:20| Error: Cannot open phone communication port
13:38:22| Disconnected... Unplug the phone

I am of course holding C while I connect the phone. Incidentally (I don't know if this is relevant) but upon connecting, whilst I am still holding C, the phone will turn itself on and resume it's white flashing. I can hear the windows 'new device connected/disconnected' sound played each time the white flashes on and off. I have tried this on Vista 64 bit, XP and a second computer running XP too and XS++ is unable to detect the phone on any of them. Also, same problem with SEUS. It doesn't get past the stage where it's asking me to connect the phone which I presume is also because it can't detect me connecting the phone.

I admit to being a little bit clueless as to how to proceed so I'm hoping one of you fine chaps will be able to lend a hand. smile.gif

Cheers.

Hi.

First of all, you wont get anywhere with a 64bit OS: the drivers are for 32bit, and Im not aware of any drivers for 64bit

At this stage, its just best to take memory card and sim out, replace the batter, dont turn on, connect the USB cable and seeing if windows detects a sony ericcson USB flash device (best to have hardware manager open and watch the USB ports)

The 64 bit drivers were available with SEUS, just remember not to actually use SEUS tongue.gif

I've managed to successfully flash and fix my phone now so many thanks everyone! smile.gif

Using phonetech's adive, I checked device manager (in Windows XP 32 bit) and noticed the "USB Flash Device" disappearing and reappearing every few seconds in time with the WSOD. I right clicked and tried updating the driver which did the trick and immediately the phone was being detected correctly and the flashing with XS++ worked like a charm. I think reinstalling SEUS and the USB drivers from this site may have helped as previously Windows was telling me it was unable to find the correct driver for the USB device even though both SEUS and the USB drivers were already installed.

Once again, cheers all! smile.gif
