Full Version: Debranding Rogers K850i

Hey guys, fairly new to this debranding business. I've looked around on this forum and on the web, and have decided I most likely wish to debrand my K850i (from Rogers). Though I still have a few questions

1. What (Rogers) functionalities are lost/rid of by debranding? (In both a good and bad way)

2. I've ruled out SETools lite and XS++ as being ways to possibly back up the current Rogers firmware. Are there any other ways to possibly achieve rebranding in the future? (I've noticed Davinci does offer Rogers firmware for K850i, but I don't really want to have to do it online)

3. Aside from MP3 ring tones, are there more features debranding can unlock? Personally for me, the main reason is to get rid of the Rogers junk I never use or plan to ever use (Vision, their occupation of the normal menus, etc.).

4. How's going to stores and getting it done? Any chances of bricking? And can anyone recommend places in Greater Vancouver? (Specifically Vancouver, Richmond or Burnaby.. Cheapest I've found so far for debranding AND unlocking is $30)

Thanks in advance for any input!

1. Not sure, don't know Rogers, but debranding makes all the branded startup screens, internet links disappear.

2. You have to use a pay service.

3. Flash menus maybe, when you can mod it using free programs.

4. Haven't been to pay stores.

K850? Isn't that db3150?

If it is then only paid services are available for you to debrand.

Correct, you will have to pay for the moment.

Mmm... Thanks for the replies so far. Well, since there isn't any way of really customizing a debranded db3150 atm, I suppose it might be better if I waited until XS++ or another free method works with them... How long's the ETA? Within a year?

Though does anyone think Rogers firmware will be available when such compatibility is achieved? (Guessing from current branded firmware availability?)

Well, you can keep up to date with it in Research and Development section.
